The Coinbase UK MiFID License marks the company’s biggest product expansion in Britain to date. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has granted Coinbase authorization to provide investment services, allowing the exchange to move beyond cryptocurrency offerings. The Coinbase UK MiFID License enables the platform to introduce traditional financial products as it advances its goal of becoming an “everything exchange.”

Coinbase said the approval will soon allow UK users to access equities, while institutional and advanced traders will gain access to a broader range of derivatives.
The Coinbase UK MiFID License allows retail customers to trade stocks through Coinbase for the first time. Professional and institutional clients will also gain access to crypto, equity, and commodity perpetual futures, subject to existing UK regulations.
The authorization complements Coinbase’s existing UK e-money license and crypto registration. Together, these approvals strengthen the company’s regulatory position in one of its largest international markets.
Coinbase said the expanded framework supports its long-term strategy of offering crypto, stocks, derivatives, prediction markets, payments, and savings through a single platform.
The Coinbase UK MiFID License comes as the UK finalizes its broader crypto regulatory framework. The FCA published its updated rules in late June, with the full regime expected to take effect in October 2027.
According to FCA research cited by Coinbase, roughly seven million UK adults already own crypto assets. While equities will become available to retail investors, crypto derivatives remain restricted to institutional and advanced traders under current FCA rules.
