Privacy Layer Added to Sui's Payment Stack

@SuiNetwork is set to roll out Confidential Transfers before the end of 2026, according to an announcement from @EmanAbio, the network's co-founder and Chief Product Officer. The feature is designed to enhance privacy for both human users and AI agents transacting on the chain.

The move is a deliberate step away from the full opacity offered by traditional privacy coins. Rather than hiding all transaction data, Sui's approach keeps sender and receiver addresses visible on-chain while shielding transaction amounts and account balances. Users retain the ability to voluntarily disclose those details to auditors when required, a design that is aimed squarely at institutional and compliance-sensitive use cases.

The feature first entered public beta on Devnet in June 2026, though it remains unaudited and is not yet production-ready. A Testnet launch is targeted for later this year, with mainnet deployment to follow after testing and security audits are complete.

Building on Sui's Gas-Free Payments Infrastructure

Confidential Transfers are intended to complement, not replace, the gas-free stablecoin settlement system Sui launched in May 2026. That protocol-level update allows users and businesses to send supported stablecoins peer-to-peer with zero transaction fees and no requirement to hold native SUI tokens. Supported assets include USDC, USDsui, suiUSDe, AUSD, FDUSD, USDB, and USDY.

Together, the two features form the basis of Sui's broader payments proposition: free settlement layered with optional confidentiality. The network has already lined up early partners to explore integration with Confidential Transfers, including Bridge, a stablecoin issuer and payments platform, and compliance analytics firms TRM Labs and Merkle Science. That compliance-first framing sets Sui apart from earlier privacy-focused chains, which typically prioritised anonymity over regulatory acceptance.

For @SuiNetwork, transaction privacy is increasingly framed as a prerequisite for real-world adoption, particularly as enterprises weigh exposing sensitive payroll, treasury, and supplier payment data on public ledgers.
