Core DAO (@Coredao_Org, $CORE) said initial contributors Rich Rines (@richrines) and Brendon Sedo (@BrendonSedo) are stepping down from their roles in the DAO. The Bitcoin-focused blockchain's community will take on more ecosystem-building and growth work, along with decisions about the network's direction.
Who is leaving
Rines and Sedo are the two best-known public figures behind the project. Cryptonews describes them as the best-known of Core's contributors, both listed as "initial contributors", while noting that most of the project's builders remain anonymous.
According to the same report, Rines is a former Coinbase engineering lead who has contributed to Core since 2022 and helped launch its mainnet. Sedo co-founded the business software company Joist, later acquired by EverCommerce, and at Core he worked on Core Ventures and institutional adoption. Core Ventures' team page carries similar descriptions of both.
Part of a wider decentralization push
The leadership change follows the DAO handing block production to independent validators. The network has made that switch with zero downtime so far. More independent operators and community-led projects are expected to follow in the coming months.
Core is a Bitcoin-linked, EVM-compatible chain secured by Satoshi Plus consensus, according to Cryptonews. The same report says that in 2026 the project settled a dispute with Maple, dealt with a validator reward exploit through an emergency hard fork, and began moving block production to independent validators.
The shift moves operational responsibility away from the DAO's own team. Whether it leads to meaningful decentralization will depend on how many independent operators take part and how widely control is spread, a point that has been raised by commentators in the market. Core has not set a firm timetable beyond "the coming months".
For $CORE holders, the practical questions are who steps into the ecosystem-building and growth roles, and how community decision-making is structured as the DAO's founding contributors withdraw.
