The crypto market is going through a turbulent period, tossed between macroeconomic caution and recurring liquidations. Yet behind the scenes, some innovations continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with almost bewildering boldness. This week, Travala precisely advanced an unexpected pawn by combining AI, blockchain, and global tourism in a mechanism that could sustainably transform the way we book travel.
In brief
- Travala now allows AI agents to book hotels without prior continuous human intervention.
- The protocol runs on Base with fast USDC payments and now extremely low fees.
- More than 2.2 million hotels become accessible via this new global automated infrastructure.
- Travala is already preparing the integration of flights in its blockchain-powered agentic ecosystem.
AI: when booking a hotel becomes a simple conversation
Travala has just launched Travel MCP, a protocol allowing an AI to search, book, and pay for a hotel almost without human intervention. The system covers more than 2.2 million establishments spread across 230 countries, including Marriott, Hilton, and IHG. Now, a traveler can chat with Claude and let the assistant manage searches, comparisons, and bookings in a single conversational thread.
This breakthrough is based on Base, the blockchain backed by Coinbase. Payments use the x402 protocol and are made in USDC with fees close to a cent. Unlike many crypto solutions, no additional tokens are required to cover network fees.
Juan Otero, CEO of Travala, summarizes the ambition of the project:
The launch of the world’s first agentic travel protocol marks the death of the payment button and the beginning of a true autonomous travel economy. We are establishing Travala as the reference infrastructure of the agentic web. Source: Bitcoin.com
Crypto disappears behind the scenes to make the experience invisible
The real strategic move is not only in the AI. Travala is mainly seeking to make the technology almost invisible. On the digital chessboard, the blockchain now acts like a discreet rook protecting the whole game without drawing the player’s attention.
The protocol uses ERC-7715 keys to limit the permissions granted to software agents. The user always keeps the final signature. This legal and technical precision addresses one of the main hindrances in the crypto market: trust.
Travala also adds the ERC-8004 standard. This allows each booking to be automatically verified by the machine itself. The AI can thus prove that a room has indeed been booked without additional human validation.
Meanwhile, the company offers a 10% discount in cbBTC to developers integrating their agents into the protocol. This marketing lever aims to accelerate adoption as competition around artificial intelligence becomes fierce.

Why the crypto industry watches this large-scale laboratory
The announcement goes far beyond the tourism sector. Morgan Stanley estimates that “agentic shoppers” could represent 20% of online commerce by 2030. Other projections mention $8 billion of autonomous transactions by 2026 and then $3.5 trillion by 2031.
For the crypto sphere, Travala thus becomes a large-scale laboratory. The company is testing an economy where artificial intelligences negotiate, select, and execute operations in seconds. Travel is probably just an opening move.
Travala already plans to extend its protocol to airline tickets. Its AVA token could also gain new functions as the ecosystem develops. Supported by Binance for several years, the company is now seeking to occupy a central position in the emergence of agentic commerce.
- More than 2.2 million hotels accessible via Travel MCP.
- Bookings available in over 230 countries currently.
- Average cost close to one cent per validated transaction.
- Automatic 10% discount in cbBTC for developers.
- Over 100 cryptocurrencies already accepted by Travala.
While Travala accelerates, some observers still call for caution. Anthropic recently warned that artificial intelligence is advancing faster than available control mechanisms. The contrast is striking: on one side, AI already books travel; on the other, experts still question its ability to remain sustainably under human oversight.
