Dell Technologies (DELL) gained 2.55% to $450.53 after Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station selected the company for a major AI infrastructure project. The agreement covers the design and deployment of the Innovative Growth in Next Generation AI Technology Ecosystem, known as IGNITE. The platform will expand large-scale artificial intelligence and high-performance computing research across multiple scientific and engineering fields.

Dell Wins Texas A&M AI Infrastructure Project

Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station selected Dell Technologies to design and build the IGNITE artificial intelligence and high-performance computing platform. The State of Texas funds the initiative to strengthen advanced research capabilities across the university system. The project targets engineering, national security, scientific discovery, healthcare and other research programs.

The new platform will support large computing workloads through shared infrastructure with different security requirements. As a result, researchers can use one environment instead of separate computing systems. The design also allows the platform to expand as future research demands increase.

Texas A&M expects IGNITE to become one of the largest higher education AI deployments using AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs. The platform will support artificial intelligence training, inference, large language model development, and scientific computing. It will also provide computing resources for robotics, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and defense research.

Platform Combines Secure Infrastructure With Scalable Computing

Dell worked with Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station during the planning process to develop the system architecture. The design aligns research priorities with security requirements across different government and academic programs. Consequently, the infrastructure supports projects with varying levels of data protection.

The platform will use Dell PowerRack systems together with liquid-cooled Dell PowerEdge XE9785L servers. Dell will also deploy Dell PowerScale storage to support high-speed data management across research workloads. Dell Managed Services will oversee daily operations as computing requirements expand.

Dell will install the complete system inside an Equinix International Business Exchange data center located in Dallas. The facility will provide secure infrastructure and reliable connectivity for research operations. This approach allows Texas A&M to scale computing resources without creating isolated environments.

Collaboration Expands Longstanding Research Partnership

The IGNITE project extends a longstanding partnership between Dell Technologies and the Texas A&M University System. Dell already supports several university computing environments, including FASTER, Grace, ACES and Launch. Those systems currently power research activities across multiple academic disciplines.

The expanded collaboration also supports student training and workforce development through advanced computing resources. Students and researchers will gain practical experience using large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure. The initiative also strengthens cooperation between universities, government agencies, and industry organizations.

The project arrives as research organizations require larger computing platforms with stronger security controls. Federal programs increasingly demand infrastructure that supports both advanced artificial intelligence and traditional high-performance computing workloads. The IGNITE platform positions Texas A&M to compete for larger research programs while expanding long-term scientific research capacity.
