@Dfinity has connected the Internet Computer ($ICP) with Anthropic's @claudeai platform, allowing developers and businesses to create full-stack decentralized infrastructure through chat prompts.
Through Claude's connector registry, users can create cloud infrastructure, build decentralized enterprise client portals, and continuously deploy smart contracts from a chat window. The integration converts chat prompts into on-chain infrastructure, a step that could make building on-chain applications as simple as sending a command.
How the ICP Connector Works
The integration relies on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard that lets AI assistants interact with outside services. According to the Internet Computer's own documentation, ICP MCP is the official connector between an AI assistant and the Internet Computer, hosted by DFINITY.Users add the connector address to their chatbot as a custom connector or MCP server in Claude or any other MCP-capable app.
Access is controlled through Internet Identity, the network's authentication system. Users authorize a session and choose its duration, with the ability to revoke it at any time. They can also choose between letting the AI act on their behalf or limiting it to answering questions.
DFINITY says the setup requires little technical knowledge. Its documentation says users can look things up, call methods and manage app accounts in plain language, with no coding required.
What Connectors Mean for Claude Users
Connectors are a standard feature of Anthropic's platform. Anthropic says connectors let Claude access a user's apps and services, retrieve data, and take actions within connected services.Claude inherits each person's permissions from the connected service. That permission model matters for blockchain use, where actions can be difficult to reverse.
The Claude launch follows a similar move toward other AI tools. DFINITY said in mid-October that an Internet Computer plugin had been added to the OpenAI ChatGPT plugin directory, connecting ChatGPT to apps on the network. The foundation is positioning the network as infrastructure for AI-driven development. DFINITY describes the Internet Computer as a tamperproof frontier cloud where AI agents write, deploy, and run applications.
The practical reach of the Claude integration will depend on how many developers adopt it and how well the connector handles production deployments. Details on usage have not been published.
