Dogecoin trades at $0.0757 at midday on Friday and has given up a level that has served as a test in our coverage since October 24: $0.0750. The daily low was $0.0727. The last daily close below $0.0750 was on August 20, 71 days ago.
The trigger does not sit with Dogecoin itself. The whole market has fallen since the reports of the attack on Binance, and leveraged positions are being closed out in the process. Three things change in practice: the levels the price orients itself around, the cost of a leveraged position, and the tax value of a sale before the year ends.
The Dogecoin price on October 30 and the range of the day
According to CoinGecko data retrieved at midday on Friday, Dogecoin stands at $0.075664. That is 4.14 percent below the level of 24 hours earlier. The day's high was $0.081219 and the day's low $0.072687. The gap between the two is 11.7 percent, in a single trading session.
Market capitalisation is $11.84 billion and turnover over the past 24 hours $1.00 billion. The price sits 89.7 percent below the all-time high of $0.7316 set in 2021.
Over seven days Dogecoin is down 5.22 percent, over 30 days 20.55 percent. That makes DOGE weaker over the month than Bitcoin at minus 7.82 percent and Ethereum at minus 17.07 percent, but stronger than Chainlink at minus 23.15 percent and Polkadot at minus 23.39 percent.
What has happened to the $0.0750 level since October 24
On October 24 Dogecoin stood at its lowest point in 65 days, and the question then was whether the $0.0750 level would hold. That is set out in our article of October 24. Six trading days later the answer is in: the level does not hold.
Two attempts higher came in between. On October 28 the price moved back above $0.080 during the session; on October 29 it travelled a 4.2 percent range without gaining anything on balance. It took Thursday evening's sell-off to push the price below the level, and by Friday midday it had not come back above it with any conviction.
That is the real finding of the day. A level that has held for several days does not lose its meaning when it breaks. It changes sides: what was the floor is now the ceiling.
Why Dogecoin reacts differently from Bitcoin in a sell-off
On Thursday and Friday Bitcoin lost 3.39 percent, Ethereum 4.00 percent, XRP 3.45 percent, Solana 4.05 percent and Dogecoin 4.14 percent. The distance between Bitcoin and Dogecoin on this one day is therefore small.
Over 30 days the picture differs. There, minus 7.82 percent for Bitcoin stands against minus 20.55 percent for Dogecoin. The reason is the structure of demand. Since 2024 Bitcoin has had a set of buyers who buy through exchange-traded products and do not reposition daily. Dogecoin has no comparable set. When the market falls, the buffer is missing.
There is also the trading structure. DOGE trading runs overwhelmingly against Tether, not against the euro. Buying with euros therefore usually means a step in between, and in a phase when a large exchange is under pressure that intermediate step becomes the issue. Which venues are available and what they cost is set out in our overview of the best crypto exchanges.

October 31 closes out a month that has cost Dogecoin 20.55 percent so far.
The next support line sits at $0.0695
Levels are only worth something when there is a reason behind them. Three values currently carry one, and all three come from the price action of the past twelve months.

How individual purchases are allocated decides which cost basis applies at the end of the year.
$0.0727: the low of this trading day
Friday's lowest point is the first value against which the coming hours can be measured. If it holds, the decline stays a one-day move. If it breaks, the path to the next line is open.
$0.0695: the twelve-month low of August 17
On August 17 Dogecoin traded at $0.069020, the lowest daily close of the past twelve months. Between today's price and that value lie 8.1 percent. It is the next line that comes out of the data itself rather than out of an estimate.
$0.0750: the lost level as resistance
To the upside, the broken level is the first test. A daily close above it would be the first sign that the decline was an overshoot. As long as that is missing, the trend points down.
Analyst targets for the coming months belong in a separate piece, and they always have to be attributed by name. The three values above come from the chart and can be checked.
Funding rate and forced liquidations in the futures market
The funding rate is the payment that leveraged positions on perpetual futures make to each other every eight hours. When it is positive, buyers pay sellers. On Binance it stands at 0.01 percent per period for the DOGE against Tether pair, the baseline the exchange falls back to when supply of and demand for leverage are balanced.
That is notable. In a sell-off the rate often turns negative because more positions are betting on falling prices. Its sitting at the baseline suggests that leveraged buyers have already been forced out and that the market is not positioned one-sidedly for a further decline.
In practice that means leverage currently costs little, and that is precisely the trap. At $0.0757 the twelve-month low sits 8.1 percent away. A position with ten times leverage is liquidated before that on the arithmetic alone, and well before it once fees and funding are counted. To compare the cost side of such positions, price funding and fees into the distance to liquidation before the position is open.
Holding period and loss offsetting before the turn of the month
October 31 is not a tax date, but it is the last day of a month that has cost 20.55 percent so far. For a tax return it is the moment of sale that counts, not the turn of the month. Even so, this is the point at which two rules become relevant.
The first is the holding period. Private disposals of cryptocurrencies are tax-free in Germany after a holding period of one year, set out in section 23 of the Income Tax Act. Holding DOGE for longer than twelve months means selling tax-free, but it also means no deductible loss for the tax office. Where the legal framework is moving on this we track on our page on the crypto holding period.
The second is the exemption limit. Gains from private disposals stay tax-free up to 1,000 euros per calendar year. Once that limit is exceeded, the whole amount is taxable, not only the part above it. It is a limit, not an allowance, and that is the most common arithmetic error in this area.
Losses from sales within the one-year period can be offset against gains from other private disposals in the same year, including gains on other coins. That does require clean allocation on the first-in, first-out principle, and it does not appear after the fact out of an account statement.
Custody in a week with an exchange attack
The occasion for this decline is a security incident at an exchange. That moves a question forward that has nothing to do with the price level: where your own coins sit.
Holding DOGE on a trading venue means holding a claim against that venue, not the coin itself. In quiet phases that is a theoretical distinction and in unsettled ones a practical one. Under the European MiCA regulation providers have to separate client holdings from their own and keep them in custody, which improves the position against earlier years but is no guarantee against an attack.
Self-custody shifts the risk, it does not remove it. Whoever holds the key is liable for it. The decision turns on the sum involved, on how often you trade, and on whether safe storage of the recovery words is organised.
Dogecoin against the other large coins in October
Over 30 days these numbers stand side by side: Bitcoin minus 7.82 percent, Ethereum minus 17.07 percent, XRP minus 17.56 percent, Shiba Inu minus 18.27 percent, Solana minus 19.49 percent, Dogecoin minus 20.55 percent, Cardano minus 22.34 percent, Chainlink minus 23.15 percent and Polkadot minus 23.39 percent.
Dogecoin sits in the lower middle of that field. For placing the move that matters more than the daily change: the decline is not a Dogecoin event but a market event that hits Dogecoin somewhat harder than the average of the large names.
Drawing an expectation for the coming weeks from that means keeping the two layers apart: the state of the market sets the direction, the levels from the chart set where it is decided.
Dogecoin at $0.0756: without fresh demand, $0.0695 stays open
- Recalculate your own trading structure. Check which pair you buy through and what the detour via a dollar stablecoin costs in fees. The terms of the available venues are set out in our comparison of the best crypto exchanges.
- Set leveraged positions against the twelve-month low. $0.0695 sits 8.1 percent below the current price. Work out the level at which your position closes before you open it; the cost side of the venues is set out in the overview of the best perp DEXs.
- Sort purchase records for the tax year. Without clean allocation on first in, first out, neither the one-year period nor a loss offset can be evidenced. Which programs take that on is shown by the comparison of crypto tax software.
