Dogecoin (@dogecoin) $DOGE community member Mishaboar is urging businesses to invest in the network’s open-source development, as commercial activity around the original meme coin picks up.

In an X post addressed to commercial ventures building for Dogecoin, Mishaboar identified support for Dogecoin Core and its development as a top priority, according to U.Today. He said that means keeping the software secure and up to date, and that the project needs rigorous engineers to review code and to make well-argued, thoroughly researched proposals.

Calls for independent developers and alternative nodes

Mishaboar also stressed the need to support independent developers, alternative node software and good research. According to a KuCoin News summary of his post, he called for independent audits, code reviews and funding for transparent research, and for more investment in alternative node implementations. The same summary says he encouraged responsible commercial products with clear business models and disclosure of user risks.

Dogecoin Core is the reference software that lets anyone run a node on the network. Its GitHub repository describes it as open source and community driven, with a development process that is publicly visible to anyone.

Timing follows Dogecoin Labs launch

The message follows the launch of Dogecoin Labs (@DogecoinLabs), which brings several ecosystem products and development teams together. According to an October 21 press release from House of Doge, Dogecoin Labs is an independent organization established in partnership with the Dogecoin Foundation. It is led by CEO Jordan Jefferson and brings together MyDoge, Such App and DogeOS.

The same release says the Foundation, a not-for-profit steward of Dogecoin founded in 2014, also backs open-source development across the ecosystem. In the launch announcement, Foundation director Tim Stebbing said Dogecoin Labs aims to turn the community's strength into products people use while preserving the open development model at the heart of Dogecoin.

Mishaboar's comments highlight a point of tension. Commercial teams are consolidating around products such as wallets, payments and app platforms, while the base-layer software they rely on remains community-driven. Third-party commentary from CoinGabbar has described Dogecoin Core's funding as less formal, with much of the work driven by the community and some backing from the Foundation.

The Foundation has previously moved to reward core contributors. In a past initiative, Cointelegraph reported that it allocated 5 million DOGE to a fund distributing 500,000 DOGE to contributors for each Dogecoin Core release.
