DTCC Tokenization October Launch: $30T Pool Start With 25 Securities
The firm at the center of the US securities settlement is ready to move assets onto a blockchain this October. The DTCC Tokenization Service is set for commercial launch by the end of October 2026 on Canton Network and Besu, its private network. It starts with 25 securities.
Around $30 trillion of assets held at DTC can be tokenized over time, based on the official At-a-Glance overview.

More than 30 institutions already traded on it in limited July tests.
DTCC Tokenization Service Launch Brings 25 Assets to Canton and Besu
DTCC released its overview on October 16-17 doc, and the first release is small by design:

Source: X Official
Assets at launch: 25 large-cap Russell 1000 stocks, ETFs and US Treasuries
Eligible pool:about $30 trillion, roughly a quarter of the $114 trillion-plus DTC holds
Networks:Canton Network (CIP-56 standard) and Besu, DTCC’s private network (ERC-20 standard)
Transfers: around the clock, between registered and screened wallets on the same network
Conversions:swaps between regular and tokenized form run about 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET on business days, aiming for 15 minutes or less
Only eligible DTC participants can join, mainly large banks, brokers and custodians, along with their clients. That makes the DTCC Tokenization Service an institutional tool first.
Why the DTCC Tokenization Service Launch Matters
Slow collateral processes are giving way to 24/7 transfers, allowing assets to move faster and settle at any time without waiting for traditional banking hours.
The change is easiest to see side by side:
Before: Securities moved on set market schedules, and banks kept extra collateral idle as a buffer.
Now: Tokens move at any hour, so top-quality assets can be pledged faster for repo, margin and securities lending.
Before: Digital experiments risked splitting markets into separate pools.
Now: Tokens share the same CUSIP as the originals, so both forms draw on one pool of liquidity.
Industry estimates, including work from the World Economic Forum, point to savings of up to $100 billion worldwide, according toDTCC’s insights page. That is an estimate, not a promise.
Early use is expected in collateral management, securities lending.
Launch Safeguards: Tokens Keep Same CUSIP and DTC Compliance Controls
Safety rules shaped the design. Each token is backed one-to-one by a security that DTC holds, and it carries the same legal rights as the original. Official books and records stay at DTC. Built-in controls include mint, burn, pause, clawback and transfer limits.
For Treasuries, interest and maturity payments are handled on-chain, while cash goes to regular accounts, per the same At-a-Glance document.
The SEC approved the plan through a no-action letter in December 2025, with a three-year window. DTCC describes the effort as anevolution of its 50-year role, not a disruption.
What’s Ahead: Stellar and Circle’s Arc Join the Roadmap in 2027
Once the DTCC Tokenization Service is live, DTCC plans further steps. The list is indicative and depends on the SEC letter, participant feedback and market conditions:

New networks:Stellar (SEP-41, first half of 2027) and Circle’s Arc (ERC-20)
Wider assets: more Russell 1000 stocks, ETFs and Treasuries
Servicing: corporate actions for stocks and ETFs
Records: one consolidated stock record across book-entry and on-chain positions
Settlement:on-chain netting and digital cash
Twenty-five securities is a modest start for a custodian holding more than $114 trillion. The real test comes in 2027, when public networks such as Stellar join and the question shifts from whether tokenized collateral works to how fast banks adopt it. The DTCC Tokenization Service will set that pace.
