EDP Renewables Earnings Benefit From US Growth and Asset Sales
North America played an important role in the company's financial performance, with electricity generation increasing 9% and electricity sales rising 10%. However, much of the earnings improvement came from asset rotation, which involves selling stakes in renewable energy projects to generate capital for further investment.
Gains from these transactions reached €333 million, compared with €59 million a year earlier. Excluding these gains, underlying EBITDA increased by a more modest 4%.
EDP Renewables generated approximately 30.9 terawatt-hours of electricity during the nine-month period, which is a 2% increase year over year. Its installed renewable energy capacity also expanded to approximately 20.5 gigawatts.

However, the stock is still below its 52-week high of €14.67. This suggests that investors are still evaluating the company's growth prospects and financial position. CEO Departure Adds Uncertainty
The earnings announcement coincided with a leadership announcement at. On Nov. 4, EDP revealed that CEO Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade will step down when his current mandate expires in 2027. The company initiated a succession process and expects the transition to prioritize strategic continuity.
Looking ahead, investors will monitor the sustainability of earnings growth, debt levels and further expansion in the United States.
