CUSD: Private Payments for Institutional Use Cases
@0xfairblock has launched CUSD on @arbitrum, billed as the first confidential stablecoin designed specifically for institutional settlements. The token encrypts both transaction amounts and balance states on-chain, allowing businesses to conduct payroll runs, manage corporate treasuries, and execute OTC trades without exposing sensitive financial data to the public blockchain.
The case for confidentiality on public chains is straightforward. Payroll activity can expose employee compensation, treasury movements can reveal balance size and liquidity, OTC transactions can reveal trade size and market direction, and merchant payments can expose supplier terms and margins. CUSD is designed to eliminate those exposures while keeping settlement on-chain.
CUSD is designed to support both confidential and public transfers while maintaining institutional compliance requirements. The protocol achieves this using on-chain homomorphic encryption, reaching execution finality within seconds and without relying on any coprocessor, threshold committee, or trusted execution environments (TEEs). Compliance is handled through a four-layered engine developed in partnership with @0xPredicate, and the codebase has been independently audited by @NethermindSec.
Built on the PYUSDx Infrastructure
CUSD sits within the PYUSDx ecosystem, a stablecoin issuance platform developed in collaboration with @PayPal, @moonpay, and @m0. PYUSDx is a stablecoin issuance platform built with M0 and MoonPay, and backed by PayPal's PYUSD token.PYUSDx gives businesses a developer platform to launch their own application-specific dollar products, backed by PYUSD reserves, without having to build the issuance and reserve infrastructure themselves.
PYUSDx merges M0's token issuance technology with MoonPay's operational tools, allowing launches in days rather than months. It is worth noting that tokens created through PYUSDx remain distinct from PayPal USD itself and cannot be held or transferred via PayPal or Venmo wallets.
At its core, Fairblock's mission is to build trustworthy rails for open finance using confidential computing. The Arbitrum network forms a natural fit for that goal. Arbitrum has become a key stablecoin rail for payments, settlements, and treasury operations. Fairblock uses Arbitrum Stylus to run heavy cryptographic routines natively on-chain, removing the need for users to place trust in external services.
