Flare has launched Flare Confidential Compute (FCC) on Songbird, introducing infrastructure that allows smart contracts to use sensitive institutional data without publishing the underlying information onchain. The system processes private inputs inside a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and returns a signed result that smart contracts can independently verify.
The launch addresses a major limitation for bringing traditional financial activity onchain. Institutional information such as reserve balances, fund NAVs, collateral positions, credit information and compliance records often cannot be made public, even when blockchain applications need to verify facts derived from that data.
FCC is designed to bridge that gap. Instead of exposing the raw information, confidential data is processed privately and only the resulting conclusion is published. For example, a smart contract could verify that an asset meets a required collateral threshold without seeing the institution’s actual balances.
The first real-world application is already live with Hex Trust’s USDX stablecoin. FCC combines public reserve information with restricted cash reserve data and compares the total against USDX supply. It then produces a signed result confirming whether USDX is backed 1:1 or better, while keeping the actual private reserve balances confidential.
The technology could extend well beyond stablecoins. Flare points to potential applications including tokenized funds that calculate verifiable NAVs from undisclosed holdings, lending protocols that combine public prices with private collateral information, and credit or compliance systems that need to verify a conclusion without revealing sensitive records.
FCC is initially available on Songbird, Flare’s canary network, with a separate deployment on Flare planned to follow.
