Independent gubernatorial candidate Frank J. Russo has become the first in Florida's 2026 governor's race to accept cryptocurrency contributions, his campaign announced July 6.
Supporters can now donate through Russo2026.com, with the campaign saying all crypto contributions will comply with existing federal and state campaign finance laws.
"Florida has always succeeded when we've embraced innovation instead of fearing it," Russo said.
He framed the move as a signal of confidence in the technology rather than just a fundraising tactic.
The decision builds on remarks Russo made at the Consensus conference, where he laid out plans to position Florida as a national leader in blockchain and digital asset investment.
He has proposed making the state a hub for blockchain companies, fintech startups and Web3 entrepreneurs by keeping regulations business-friendly and directing state investment toward emerging tech.

Russo tied the crypto donation policy to a broader appeal for bipartisan support, describing the crypto community as reflective of the coalition he's trying to build.
"It's diverse, forward-looking, and focused on building solutions that improve people's lives," he said.
He added that his campaign isn't about party lines but about "moving Florida forward." He also directed a message at builders and developers in the state.
"Florida should be the place where your ideas become reality," he said.
He pledged that his administration would work to make the state the most competitive place in the U.S. to build new technology.
