  • Fogo halted its mainnet after 400 million FOGO tokens moved to an attacker.
  • The tokens equal 4% of genesis supply and more than 10% of circulating supply.
  • Bitget and KuCoin suspended FOGO deposits and withdrawals.

Fogo has halted its mainnet after an attacker received about 400 million FOGO tokens from compromised Foundation-controlled wallets. The tokens represented about 4% of Fogo’s 10 billion genesis supply and more than 10% of circulating supply. FOGO traded near $0.0075 during the incident, putting the transferred tokens near $3 million.

The Foundation initially said the blockchain itself continued operating normally. About 15 hours later, Fogo paused the network to prevent further movement of the affected tokens. Validators will upgrade the network and restrict addresses linked to the unauthorized activity.

Fogo Mainnet Stops After Foundation Wallet Compromise

The Foundation disclosed the breach after an unknown actor transferred the tokens to an attacker-controlled address. It said exchanges, law enforcement agencies, and forensic specialists had been contacted.

Fogo has not disclosed how the attacker gained access. It also has not identified the affected wallets or confirmed whether private keys, cloud systems, or other internal infrastructure were involved.

The decision to halt the chain changed Fogo’s initial response. The Foundation first described the event as an organizational compromise rather than a blockchain failure. The later shutdown showed that validators needed a network-level response to restrict the affected assets.

Fogo Token Supply Makes the Transfer Hard to Ignore

The 400 million tokens represent a relatively small portion of Fogo’s total genesis supply. Their share of circulating tokens is much larger, creating a potential liquidity concern if the attacker attempts to sell them.

FOGO fell about 18% after the breach, with market data placing the token near $0.0075. The project’s market capitalization stood near $38 million, according to reported market data.

Exchange restrictions could limit the attacker’s ability to move the tokens through centralized platforms. Bitget suspended FOGO deposits and withdrawals before Fogo’s public disclosure, while KuCoin also suspended FOGO services.

Fogo Faces Questions Over Network Control

Fogo’s emergency upgrade will restrict addresses associated with the unauthorized transfers. The approach can prevent further movement, but it also shows that validators can intervene during a security incident.

That issue matters for Fogo’s stated use case. The network targets fast on-chain trading, with advertised block times near 40 milliseconds. Its ability to stop transactions during an emergency now becomes part of the security discussion.

Fogo launched its mainnet in January after a $7 million Binance token sale at a reported $350 million valuation. The project has marketed the network toward high-speed trading applications.

The next developments will centre on the attack method, the fate of the 400 million tokens, exchange restrictions, and the timing of the mainnet restart. Fogo has not provided a restart timetable or a full explanation of how address restrictions will operate.
