Uphold has introduced an inheritance feature that lets users designate a beneficiary for their XRP, giving long-term holders a way to transfer their assets to family members after death.
Crypto analyst Steph Is Crypto reported the development on X, emphasizing the significance of being able to hold XRP for 5, 10, or even 20 years while also planning for its eventual transfer.
Uphold Adds Inheritance to Its Vault
Steph Is Crypto announced that Uphold had launched what the analyst described as “$XRP INHERITANCE.” The feature allows users to name a beneficiary who can receive their XRP after completing a verified claim.
The announcement is a practical issue for cryptocurrency holders who intend to hold their positions long term. By not limiting ownership to the original holder, the feature lets users transfer XRP to a designated family member after death.
The analyst wrote, “You can now name a beneficiary and pass your XRP to your family after a verified claim.”
Steph Is Crypto also connected the feature to the long-term approach many XRP holders take when considering their investments. The post stated, “We talk about holding XRP for 5, 10 or 20 years,” before adding, “Now you can hold it BEYOND YOUR OWN LIFETIME.”
Simon McLoughlin Explains the Vault
Uphold CEO Simon McLoughlin discussed the inheritance feature in the video attached to the post. He explained that Vault remains one of the products he is most proud of at Uphold and described it as a service designed to bring self-custody benefits to mainstream users.
McLoughlin said Vault improves on the basic self-custody model by offering a key replacement service if a user loses their key. He described it as combining the self-custody security with trading convenience.
According to McLoughlin, users retain protection against third-party censorship of access to their funds while also maintaining access to Uphold’s trading services.
XRP and Bitcoin Can Be Passed to Beneficiaries
McLoughlin also explained that Uphold added the inheritance feature in 2026. The service allows users to pass either XRP or Bitcoin to a beneficiary of their choice.
He described the process as automatic and secure and said Uphold considers it a convenient way for users to hold their assets on the platform.
The feature gives XRP holders another consideration when planning long-term ownership. By allowing users to designate a beneficiary and establish a verified claim process, Uphold has added estate planning to its Vault offering for eligible digital assets.
