Google Cloud recently launched two AI solutions tailored for the legal and financial services sectors: Gemini Enterprise for Legal and Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services. The tools are designed to streamline complex workflows while ensuring security and compliance with sensitive information.

Gemini Enterprise for Legal targets law firms and legal teams, assisting with tasks like contract reviews, regulatory monitoring, legal research, and handling privacy requests.

Currently in preview, it features specialised AI capabilities and integrates with existing legal technology platforms such as iManage, NetDocuments, RelativityOne, DocuSign, Everlaw, Harvey, Legora, and Thomson Reuters. This allows the AI to access information securely while respecting existing access permissions.

The platform aids in monitoring regulatory changes, negotiating contracts, creating contracting playbooks, and addressing Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs). For example, it can keep track of legislative updates and court dockets, comparing them to an organisation’s policies to identify compliance gaps.

Additionally, legal research generated through the platform relies on verified internal documents and authorised legal databases, providing traceable citations for lawyers to confirm the information’s accuracy.

Google adds AI research tools for financial institutions

Alongside the legal product, Google Cloud launched its Gemini Enterprise specifically for financial services, which is currently available in preview mode for capital markets and corporate banking. This solution features a Google-managed Financial Research agent, equipped with over 50 specialised skills and secure connectors to various financial data and research platforms.

The data sources include well-known providers such as FactSet, LSEG, Moody’s, MSCI, PitchBook, S&P Global, SEC EDGAR, and Dun & Bradstreet, among others. The Financial Research agent is designed to automate multi-step research processes and produce outputs that include source citations, confidence scores, methodologies, and data snapshots suitable for auditing purposes.

According to Google, this system can support various workflows, including Know Your Customer (KYC) and entity research, portfolio risk analysis, credit research, advisory insights, and bond issuance. For instance, in KYC research, the system can process documents like PDFs, spreadsheets, and regulatory filings to map corporate structures and identify ultimate beneficial owners.

Google Cloud has reported that financial institutions such as Deutsche Bank and CME Group are already utilising this solution. Deutsche Bank has worked as a design partner for the Financial Research agent and plans to implement it in certain areas of its Corporate Bank.

The bank is also exploring the technology for applications in financial crime risk management, forecasting, scenario analysis, and pitch delivery within its Private Bank and Investment Bank divisions.

Additionally, for its legal product, Google stated that its launch customers include Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields, Weil, and Williams & Connolly.

Both AI solutions focus on security and data controls

Both solutions are built on the governed Gemini Enterprise platform, which provides a central control system for security, risk management and audit logging.

Google said customer data, prompts, documents and AI outputs remain within each organisation’s private cloud environment and are not used to train or fine-tune Google’s foundation models.

The company also said the solutions are designed to inherit existing permissions from connected enterprise systems, meaning the AI can only access information that a user is already authorised to see.

Google Cloud said Gemini Enterprise for Legal and Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services are the first of several planned industry-specific solutions, with products for sectors including healthcare and life sciences expected to follow.
