On Oct. 15, Rockstar Games published the much-anticipated launch trailer for the Grand Theft Auto VI. The game, which has been in production for than 8 years, finally gave fans a glimpse of what to expect.

The thrilling trailer has already generated more than 26.3 million views on YouTube. But there is one mysterious detail that has caught the attention of fans on X, Reddit, and Instagram.

With an estimated budget of $1 billion-$2 billion, the GTA 6 has taken more than a decade to make and can be counted among the most enduring pop culture phenomena. The game is scheduled to launch on Nov. 19.

The 90-second trailer follows the game's protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, driving around the streets of the fictional U.S. state of Leonida. The couple are seen flirting, romancing, and having a lot of fun while getting chased down by law enforcement agencies.

GTA 6 fans speculate about meme coin on social media

Around 00:55 seconds, the GTA 6 trailer features the logo of Dacity Coin pasted on the side of an aircraft.

When a Reddit user posted a screenshot from the trailer showing the coin on the GTAVI sub, fans shared some wild theories.

The original poster Odd_West5719 wondered if the game would feature a cryptocurrency.

In simple words, a cryptocurrency is a digital currency that relies on cryptography to secure transactions and is created on a distributed online ledger called blockchain.

A distributed ledger means no central body creates or controls the financial records; it's only after multiple contributors (nodes) spread across the world reach a consensus that a transaction is confirmed.

When the first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (BTC), was launched in 2009, it was mocked for its purported ambition to take on Wall Street.

Memes mocking the early enthusiasm for crypto birthed meme coins — a type of cryptocurrency that was built on the same blockchain technology but never pretended to have any utility except mocking cryptocurrencies.

Today, Bitcoin's market cap is worth $1.65 trillion. If BTC were a company, it would be ranked among the world's top 10 companies.

Some of the meme coins like Dogecoin (DOGE) have also become extremely popular, thanks to support from tycoons like Elon Musk.

Responding to the Reddit post, one user commented that the game will mock "crypto bros" and another wondered about the game possibly having a storyline around a rug pull — a kind of scam.

GTA Wiki, the X page of the fan-based platform that shares detailed information on the game's trivia, claimed Dacity Coin is a cryptocurrency in the game that gets promoted through publicity stunts.

"I think that's Jason and Lucia doing a side hustle," a fan quipped.

An Instagram handle called Page Z also wondered if the fictional cryptocurrency potentially hints at scams within the game.

GTA Wiki, the fan-based database, describes Dacity Coin as a fictional cryptocurrency created by AudaCity, a brand due to appear in the upcoming game.

As per GTA Wiki, Dacity Coin was first mentioned in the Oct. 11 leak which showed Lucia being asked to advertise AudaCity through a parachuting stunt in Vice City to raise money for the coin.

As reported earlier, an individual or a group called CyberLeek has been leaking GTA 6's original footage for months now and collecting money through an eponymous meme coin.

The coin has faced scam accusations, which CyberLeek has sought to deny by burning coins.

The whole controversy only shows the prevalence of crypto scams.

As per the onchain analytics platform TRM Labs, illicit crypto volume hit a record $158 billion in 2025, up nearly 145% from 2024. However, illicit volume as a proportion of overall volume fell from 1.3% in 2024 to 1.2% in 2025.

Disclaimer: Cryptocurrency investments are highly volatile and risky. There are several instances of crypto scams in the market. Always conduct your own research before making any investment decisions.
