HashPack, a well-known self-custody crypto wallet for the Hedera network, now allows its users to buy tokenized stocks and ETFs directly through SODAX integration, as detailed by CEO and co-founder May. This latest upgrade enables users to use HBAR or Hedera USDC to access stock and ETF liquidity outside the Hedera network, eliminating the need to rely on traditional liquidity pools.

Access to tokenized stocks without Hedera liquidity pools

May emphasized that this new functionality addresses a longstanding challenge associated with shallow liquidity pools. Trades executed through these limited pools often result in significant price slippage, particularly on larger transactions. By tapping into external liquidity via SODAX, HashPack users can avoid the constraints and increased costs linked to local pools on Hedera.

The system allows buyers to receive a Hedera Token Service (HTS) token that represents a stock token issued on Robinhood Chain. SODAX manages the underlying asset relationship, ensuring a one-to-one correspondence between the HTS token and the actual stock. This setup removes the need for additional wallets or manual transfers between blockchains, streamlining user access to tokenized equities and ETFs.

Mini dictionary: SODAX is a platform that facilitates the trading of tokenized stocks and ETFs by bridging liquidity from external sources, allowing crypto wallet users to access equities without interacting directly with centralized exchanges or relying on native network liquidity pools.

Dividend handling was also addressed. May indicated that, as far as she is aware, dividends generated from these tokenized stocks are reinvested into the same asset rather than distributed as cash. However, she did not offer details about the legal structure, investor rights, or any geographic limitations, leaving some key regulatory and practical questions unresolved for now.

May explained that users can “pay with HBAR or Hedera USDC, and they’re not reliant on local network liquidity,” adding that the SODAX integration maintains direct exposure to the original asset’s price through a one-to-one token structure.

Portfolio redesign and future outlook

This stock and ETF integration comes alongside a redesign of HashPack’s “Portfolio” feature. The updated wallet now includes a customizable homepage and a bottom-opening navigation dock. May pointed out that most of HashPack’s users interact via mobile devices, and as the platform expanded its offerings—including swap services, staking, and NFT support—navigation had become more challenging.

HashPack’s development team aims to centralize and streamline the user experience by making features more accessible. The broader redesign intends to cater to both new and returning users as the wallet ecosystem grows.

In terms of wider institutional adoption, May reported that enterprise integrations are still in the discussion stage. She noted that meaningful progress in this area may take between 12 to 24 months, as the company continues ongoing talks but does not expect significant enterprise-driven updates in the near future.

Lending and borrowing potential

May expressed optimism about the future introduction of lending and borrowing features for tokenized stocks within the HashPack wallet. However, these capabilities are not currently available, and she did not specify a timeline for their implementation.

The continued expansion of tokenized assets inside crypto wallets like HashPack reflects the industry’s interest in bridging traditional and decentralized finance, while also highlighting the importance of regulatory clarity and robust user rights for these new products.

Access to tokenized equities through HashPack offers users additional trading routes and diversification, but understanding the legal and geographic constraints remains a priority for investors considering these tools alongside conventional brokerage accounts.
