@hedera has launched its Network MCP on testnet, a single connection point that lets AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and ChatGPT work directly with the Hedera network. Through more than 40 tools, an agent can send $HBAR, create tokens, manage allowances and read network data.
How the Hedera Network MCP works
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI clients discover and call external tools, according to Genfinity. The Hedera Network MCP runs on Hedera Testnet through a single endpoint. Hedera lists Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Devin, Claude on web and desktop, and ChatGPT as supported clients, Genfinity reports.
The design keeps the user in control of funds. Hedera's own MCP page states that nothing settles until the user signs from their own web3 wallet app or browser extension. Users need a funded wallet such as Kabila Wallet or HashPack to sign and send transactions. In practice, an agent can propose a transfer or a token mint, but it cannot complete either one alone.
That approach follows Hedera's earlier agent work. Hedera's developer documentation describes a hosted Network MCP server, built on the Hedera Agent Kit, as non-custodial, with every transaction approved and signed in the user's own wallet.
Docs MCP is live, Payments MCP is next
Hedera offers more than one MCP product. The Docs MCP is already running. According to Hedera, it gives coding agents live documentation so they stop inventing API calls, and it is read-only, with no wallet or keys needed. Agents can search API references, SDK guides and code examples at the moment they write code.
A Payments MCP is listed as coming soon. Hedera describes it as a tool that lets an assistant pay for things on its own, within limits the user sets first. A hosted server and client would let assistants such as Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini, Devin and ChatGPT transact on Hedera.
For now, the Network MCP is limited to testnet, so developers can experiment without real funds at stake. Whether and when it moves to mainnet has not been confirmed in the sources reviewed. The launch adds to a wider push to make blockchains easier for AI agents to use, while keeping final signing authority with humans.
