Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei earned $18 million in 2025, largely in equity awards, according to a filing for an IPO that could value the Claude developer above $2 trillion.

Key Points:

  • Dario Amodei received $18 million in 2025, mostly in stock and options.
  • Anthropic President Daniela Amodei, his sister, earned $16.4 million.
  • A pay researcher called the CEO's total low for a possible $2 trillion company.

Dario Amodei Pay Breakdown

The compensation figures surfaced Tuesday in a report based on Anthropic's S-1 prospectus, which shows the company preparing a stock market listing as early as this fall. The document itself has not been released publicly. The offering could value the developer of the Claude AI models at more than $2 trillion.

Amodei and his sister, Anthropic President Daniela Amodei, each had their annual salaries doubled to $1.4 million in July. Stock and option awards made up the bulk of both packages in 2025, and Daniela Amodei received $16.4 million in total for the year.

Anthropic's board also granted the siblings restricted stock units this year, with part of the award tied to their staying at the company and part tied to the IPO. Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao, who joined in 2024 with options on 1.4 million shares, earned $720,250 last year. A company spokesperson declined to comment on the figures.

Courtney Yu On CEO Pay

Courtney Yu, director of research at executive compensation data firm Equilar, said the $18 million total "seems on the lower end for a company valued at $2 trillion." Yu added that Amodei has six fellow co-founders, which may leave him a smaller share of IPO wealth than other major technology CEOs receive.

The total places Amodei above Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, who made $10.9 million in 2025, most of it for personal security, and Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, who made $2.1 million. He trails Oracle co-CEO Clayton Magouyrk, who earned $627.5 million. Founder CEOs usually own enough equity to live off its rising value and tend to take little in annual pay, Yu said.

Anthropic IPO Timeline

The prospectus does not describe how much of the company its founders own, a stake that could be worth billions of dollars depending on the final IPO terms. Amodei, his sister and their fellow co-founders pledged in the filing to dedicate 80% of their personal Anthropic equity to charitable causes.

Anthropic submitted a confidential draft registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Jun. 1. That step came less than a week after a $65 billion Series H funding round valued the company at $965 billion. A February round had valued it at $380 billion, and rival OpenAI was valued at $852 billion in March.
