Whales on the decentralized trading platform Hyperliquid secured approximately $5 million in profits by selling HYPE tokens during a strong price rally at the end of October. The moves took place as renewed investor interest drove HYPE to new highs, before a sharp reversal pulled prices back down.

Druckenmiller investment brings Hyperliquid into the spotlight

Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller revealed that he invested in Trade[XYZ], a company developing market infrastructure on Hyperliquid. His public announcement on October 29 drew attention to efforts to establish regulated round-the-clock futures trading in the United States.

Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, also announced a stake in Trade[XYZ]. Together, the companies are planning a U.S. venue for trading futures contracts across stocks, commodities, currencies, and cryptocurrencies, pending regulatory approval. Trade[XYZ] is already active on Hyperliquid outside the United States, but no launch date has been disclosed for the American market.

Intercontinental Exchange and Trade[XYZ] have announced plans for a 24/7 futures trading venue in the United States, expected to cover a range of assets including stocks, commodities, currencies, and crypto, if regulators clear the proposal.

Whales offload HYPE near local peak

Blockchain analytics provider Santiment identified four major Hyperliquid wallets as top sellers during the late October surge. One wallet, with the address 0xa2ce…3126, reportedly built up a significant HYPE position from May before unloading its holdings while the token traded between $94 and $95.

This wallet sold approximately $225,000 worth of HYPE every five minutes, and exited its position entirely with a profit of $2,395,168. Three other large sellers reportedly contributed to the total $5 million profit realized by whales during the rally. The spike in trading followed news of the ICE and Trade[XYZ] partnership, though blockchain records do not explain individual trading strategies.

Santiment reported that four Hyperliquid whale wallets earned around $5 million in aggregate profits during the October rally, with one wallet securing $2.39 million by selling HYPE near the local peak.

Contrasting positions and market volatility

While several major traders benefitted from the rally by selling at favorable prices, Santiment also tracked four large short positions on HYPE, which were reportedly profitable as prices fell. In contrast, one substantial buyer held onto exposure and faced double-digit percentage losses as the token began to retreat.

These results highlight differing strategies and outcomes among prominent participants on Hyperliquid, driven by rapid price swings and news-driven volatility. Santiment’s figures specifically refer to the activity and results of large, visible wallets rather than all platform users.

HYPE price retraces gains on regulatory uncertainty

Following the rally, HYPE’s price dropped more than 12% from the local high. As of November 5, HYPE traded between $81.79 and $85, moving further below the $84.15 mark. Technical assessments have flagged the $76 to $78 region as a key support area, with further declines possible if that level is breached.

The recent drop coincided with anticipation surrounding the proposed U.S. trading service, which still awaits regulatory clearance. No firm timeline has been provided for the launch of the regulated venue, adding a layer of uncertainty for traders monitoring HYPE’s outlook.

For traders aiming to stay ahead of price movements in volatile assets like HYPE, CryptoAppsy’s real-time charts and smart price alerts can provide an edge. These features allow users to respond quickly to major whale activity or shifts related to regulatory developments, helping them track support and resistance levels more effectively during periods of heightened market interest.
