Injective (@injective) has put forward a governance proposal that aims to make transaction costs more predictable and reduce latency on its network. The proposal, known as IIP-709, would enable fixed gas fees for core exchange messages on mainnet.
The feature has been available on Injective's testnet since July 2026 but has not been activated on mainnet. Voting is set to close on October 17, 2026. Roughly 23 million $INJ in voting power has been recorded so far, and quorum has been reached, according to the latest data.
What IIP-709 would change
According to TokenPost, the proposal would set the exchange parameter fixed_gas_enabled to true. Covered messages include order placement, order cancellations, deposits, withdrawals and subaccount transfers.
Today, gas usage is typically estimated through transaction simulation. Moving to predefined values could reduce that estimation overhead and give users clearer visibility on execution costs, as noted in community commentary on KuCoin News. Integrators and market makers could use published gas requirements for supported messages instead of estimating gas for each transaction, TokenPost reports.
The change would not remove costs altogether. Crypto Briefing notes that fixed pricing does not mean free pricing, so spam protections remain in place. TokenPost adds that trading fees are separate from gas and would be unchanged.
Gas values and documentation
Injective's own documentation says the fixed gas heuristics require fixed_gas_enabled to be set to true in the exchange module parameters. The Injective developer docs state the setting is enabled on testnet and would be activated on mainnet through a governance params proposal.
Published figures vary by source and measurement scope. Injective's API reference lists fixed requirements such as 120,000 gas for derivative limit orders and 70,000 for derivative order cancellations, while TokenPost notes the final amounts for the proposed mainnet configuration are not specified.
The proposal comes as Injective already offers low fees. Crypto Briefing puts the minimum gas price at 160,000,000 INJ units, which it says works out to typical fees of about $0.0003 per transaction. Stakers of $INJ can vote on the proposal until the October 17 deadline.
