Injective's (@injective) September Community BuyBack round filled within hours of opening, according to @injective, with the event valued at more than $168,000. The speed of the fill underscores growing demand for a program that has quietly become one of the more distinctive deflationary mechanisms in the Layer-1 space.
How the BuyBack Works
Once a month, participants commit $INJ tokens and receive a pro rata share of revenue generated across the Injective ecosystem. The committed INJ is then permanently burned. Revenue payouts are distributed in USDT and other tokens, while the burned supply is removed from circulation for good.
The program launched in November 2025, following governance proposal IIP-617, which passed with 99.96% of votes in favor. That proposal established what Injective calls the $INJ Supply Squeeze, a broader deflationary framework connecting the monthly BuyBack burns with the network's existing burn auction mechanism.
Across four completed monthly rounds, a total of 178,338 INJ has been burned. Burns have grown from 36,900 INJ to nearly 55,000 per round, and participants have not earned below 20% in any round yet.The program's single-round record stands at over $315,000, set in June 2026.
Price Context
$INJ traded near $5.30 on the day the September round filled, down about 7.7% over 24 hours, though still up roughly 21% on the week after recovering from under $4.40 on August 20, per CoinMarketCap data.
Injective's intended outcome is a flywheel effect: higher ecosystem activity generates a larger revenue basket, which draws more committed INJ, resulting in bigger burns and increased scarcity. The network ranks in the top 10 Layer-1 blockchains by trailing-12-month revenue, and nearly all of it is returned to holders through the buyback program, which has burned more than 7.1 million INJ since 2021.
