  • ArbitrumDAO’s USDG proposal would add 100 million ARB to a growth budget specifically earmarked for stablecoin adoption, rather than treating USDG as just another listed asset
  • The proposal would also route a share of Arbitrum’s own protocol fee revenue toward converting into USDG through the DAO’s treasury management committee, tying the stablecoin directly into how the DAO manages its own balance sheet
  • Framing the initiative as a formal “Special Project” within an existing contributor’s multi-year scope of work gives it a structured mandate rather than a one-off grant

Many DeFi ecosystems compete for stablecoin liquidity simply by encouraging issuers to list their tokens and hoping usage follows. Arbitrum’s proposal to adopt USDG as what it calls a “core strategic initiative” takes a more deliberate approach, treating the stablecoin less as one more asset among many and more as infrastructure the DAO itself has a direct financial stake in growing.

The clearest sign of that shift is where the proposal’s funding comes from and where it goes. Rather than a simple marketing grant, the plan would add 100 million ARB from ArbitrumDAO’s own treasury into its existing DRIP growth budget, specifically allocated toward USDG adoption, while also broadening what that budget is permitted to fund and extending its timeline. That is a meaningfully larger and more structured commitment than a typical one-time incentive program.

The more unusual element is how the proposal ties Arbitrum’s own revenue into the stablecoin’s growth. Arbitrum generates protocol-level fee revenue, referred to in the proposal as AEP fees, from ordinary network activity. Under this plan, a share of that revenue, after a 20% allocation that already goes to the Arbitrum Developer Guild, would be routed into the DAO’s treasury management vehicle and converted into USDG. In effect, a portion of the network’s own operating revenue would flow directly into accumulating the very stablecoin the DAO is trying to grow, rather than those two activities, revenue management and stablecoin growth, remaining entirely separate initiatives.

That structure gives the DAO a direct financial incentive tied to USDG’s success on Arbitrum that goes beyond simply wanting more activity on the network in general. If the proposal passes and USDG adoption grows, the DAO’s own treasury stands to accumulate more of the stablecoin through this fee-routing mechanism, aligning the DAO’s own balance sheet with the initiative’s success in a way a simple grant program would not.

The proposal also locates this effort within an existing governance structure rather than creating an entirely new one, confirming it as a formally recognized Special Project within contributor Entropy’s broader, multi-year scope of work for the DAO. That framing suggests Arbitrum intends this to be a sustained, accountable program rather than a single grant disbursed and then left unmonitored. The full proposal is detailed in Arbitrum’s own governance forum roundup.
