Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com (JD) released its second quarter 2026 financial results on Thursday, presenting a mixed picture that saw revenue underperform while profitability metrics exceeded expectations across the board.

Total net revenues reached RMB346.4 billion during the quarter, representing a 2.9% decline compared to the prior year period. Management attributed this contraction to challenging year-over-year comparisons from an elevated base. Nevertheless, the revenue figure surpassed Wall Street’s consensus forecast of RMB342.7 billion.

The platform delivered operating income of RMB4.5 billion, marking a significant turnaround from an operating loss recorded during the comparable quarter last year.

JD Retail achieved all-time high operating margins during peak shopping season, even as headline revenue growth moderated. Emerging business units, especially JD Food Delivery, demonstrated substantial loss reduction.

Chief Executive Sandy Xu characterized the quarterly performance as representing a “clear inflection” point in the company’s profitability path, acknowledging ongoing top-line headwinds.

Share Repurchases and Strategic Initiatives

During the first six months of 2026, JD.com repurchased approximately 2.5% of its common shares, deploying $1.0 billion in capital toward the buyback program.

The platform also deepened strategic collaborations throughout the quarter. It inaugurated additional JD MALL retail locations in premium urban markets and introduced a CHANEL beauty flagship store on its marketplace.

JD.com further announced an exclusive e-commerce collaboration with Costco for the Chinese market and deployed AI-driven JoyInside device integration capabilities.

JD Logistics expanded its autonomous delivery infrastructure during this timeframe.
