CNBC host Jim Cramer questioned selling in Apple, Marvell, and Palantir stock on November 2. His comments followed another difficult session for technology shares, as company results and a deal drew scrutiny.
“The negativity when it comes to Marvell, Apple, Palantir is pretty thick,” Cramer wrote on X. “No matter what they say, it isn’t enough.” His remarks followed concerns over AI spending and profits.
Marvell Shares Slide After $115 Billion Deal
Marvell shares fell more than 12% on Monday after the chipmaker announced plans to acquire Lumentum in an all-stock transaction valued at $115 billion, including debt. The companies expect to complete the purchase in the first half of 2028. The agreement still requires shareholder and regulatory approvals.
Lumentum shareholders will receive 4.5 Marvell shares for each share held. They would own about 33% of the combined business. Marvell wants Lumentum’s technology to improve connections between chips used in AI data centers.
The Marvell acquisition announcement drew attention to the purchase price and its dependence on Marvell’s share price. CEO Matt Murphy said both companies plan to combine chip design with optical technology.
Apple Earnings Beat Estimates but Costs Rise
Apple reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $114.48 billion and earnings of $2.10 per share, beating forecasts. Services sales set a quarterly record, while annual revenue reached a new high. iPhone sales also set a September-quarter record.
Apple expects margins to narrow in the December quarter. It forecasts a gross margin of 45% to 46%, versus 47.9% previously, mainly due to more expensive memory chips.
On November 4, Apple stock climbed above $352 during trading, reversing part of the earlier decline. The company expects December-quarter revenue to increase 7% to 10% from a year earlier, despite pressure from component prices.
Palantir Stock Falls Despite Strong Revenue Growth
Palantir reported third-quarter revenue of $2.31 billion, up 96% annually. Adjusted earnings reached 44 cents per share, above analysts’ 41-cent forecast. Shares fell after the results.
Palantir Technologies Inc., PLTR
Investors also reviewed slower growth in new contracts. U.S. commercial contract value reached $1.46 billion, up 11% annually, compared with 153% growth in the previous quarter. The drop in growth came despite higher sales.
As reported by Blockonomi, Palantir stock fell nearly 8% in Tuesday’s premarket trading. The company raised its full-year revenue forecast to about $8.53 billion, while reporting more business from U.S. commercial clients than government customers.
