@LayerZero_Core is tightening its grip on the cross-chain messaging market. Over the past 30 days, the protocol moved approximately $8.8 billion of the $9.5 billion in total volume recorded across the six messaging protocols tracked by blockchain data firm @AlliumLabs, giving it a 93% share by dollar value.

A Lopsided Race by Dollar Value

Chainlink ranked second in the @AlliumLabs comparison with roughly 5% of volume, ahead of Socket, Wormhole, Hyperlane, and Axelar, which together account for the remainder. The remaining five protocols are splitting roughly 14% of tracked volume among them.

The gap narrows considerably when shifting from dollars to message counts. @LayerZero_Core holds just over half of the weekly message total, a reminder that the protocol's dollar dominance is partly a function of the large-value transfers it attracts rather than raw transaction frequency alone.

The comparison also carries a notable exclusion. Issuer-run rails such as Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol, which moves $USDC natively between blockchains, are not included in the six-protocol dataset. Circle CCTP is tracked by Allium separately under its messaging protocols coverage, meaning the headline figures reflect third-party interoperability infrastructure rather than the full universe of cross-chain activity.

Context Behind the Numbers

Allium launched its Interoperability Dashboard on June 9, built in partnership with LayerZero. The tool tracks cross-chain volume, messages sent, unique wallets, market share, and chain-to-chain flows. The dashboard provides a rare apples-to-apples comparison of protocols that often report their own metrics in incompatible formats.

LayerZero's core innovation is its Decentralized Verifier Network, a modular security system that lets each application customize its verification requirements.Instead of relying on a fixed validator set, LayerZero transmits only data proofs, never custodying the underlying value. That architecture has helped the protocol attract high-value DeFi flows while avoiding the large-pool exploits that have hit traditional bridge designs.

The data underscores how quickly @LayerZero_Core has consolidated volume since its v2 upgrade, even as competitors including Chainlink's CCIP and Wormhole continue to invest in their own interoperability stacks. Whether that lead holds will depend on how the market weighs message-count diversity against raw dollar throughput going forward.
