The U.S. Senate will hold the much-awaited procedural cloture vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act at 2:15 p.m. ET on Sep. 15, 2026.

Cloture wouldn’t pass the bill. But it would end debate on the motion to proceed and clear the way for the Senate to formally take up the legislation.

It requires 60 affirmative votes to advance the bill. Since Republicans hold 53 Senate seats, at least seven Democrats also need to say aye if every Republican votes to advance the bill.

What is CLARITY Act?

So far, the CLARITY Act is the most comprehensive crypto regulation legislation in the United States.

The bill aims to split the distinct responsibilities regarding the oversight of crypto assets between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The regulatory status of cryptocurrencies has been the most contentious issue in the U.S. This bill aims to clarify which crypto assets are securities or commodities.
