PayPal Adds $PI to Its Crypto Checkout Program

@PayPal has quietly updated its official developer ecosystem to include Pi Network ($PI) in its 'Pay with Crypto' checkout program. The revision, published on August 11, 2026, adds $PI to a whitelist of roughly 100 digital assets that merchants can accept through PayPal's payments infrastructure.

The move means customers worldwide will be able to spend $PI at verified U.S. business merchants. PayPal handles the conversion automatically, settling the transaction in local fiat currency in real time, so merchants bear no direct exposure to crypto price swings.

How PayPal's Crypto Checkout Works

PayPal's 'Pay with Crypto' is designed to remove friction for both buyers and sellers. According to PayPal's developer documentation, the solution allows merchants to accept cryptocurrency payments from global buyers and receive automatic settlement in local currency. Buyers do not need a PayPal account and can connect popular third-party wallets such as Coinbase or MetaMask at checkout.

The platform currently supports around 100 cryptocurrencies and is accessible to more than 650 million pro-crypto consumers worldwide, according to PayPal's own figures. Merchants receive funds in their preferred local currency, insulating them from volatility.

For Pi Network, inclusion in this program is a meaningful step toward real-world utility. $PI holders will now have a straightforward route to spend the token through one of the world's largest payment networks, without needing to manually convert to fiat first.

PayPal has been steadily broadening its crypto footprint. The company launched 'Pay with Crypto' in July 2025, and has since expanded supported assets and integrated wallets from major exchanges. The addition of $PI follows that broader trend of pulling more digital assets into everyday commerce.
