The pilot program debuted at the retailer’s Matthews, North Carolina location. This initiative represents a milestone as the first home improvement chain to provide drone-based delivery services to consumers.

The program operates through a collaboration with Wing, Alphabet’s (GOOGL) autonomous drone division, alongside delivery platform DoorDash (DASH). Shoppers can access the service via a specialized storefront within the DoorDash mobile application.

Orders placed through the system can reach customers in approximately 20 minutes. Each drone flight supports payloads up to 2.5 pounds and services addresses within a five-mile range from the participating store.

Available Products Through the Service

The initial rollout encompasses over 100 product options. The catalog features hand tools, painting supplies, adhesive tape, batteries, cleaning soap, and multipurpose cleaners.

These products represent common items that DIY enthusiasts and contractors often discover missing during active projects. According to Seemantini Godbole, Lowe’s chief information and AI officer, the service aims to eliminate additional store visits.

In comments to CNBC, Godbole explained that project interruptions due to forgotten supplies are a common customer pain point. The aerial delivery option allows customers to maintain productivity without abandoning their work location.

This new offering complements Lowe’s current suite of fulfillment methods, which already encompasses online ordering with in-store pickup, curbside collection, and traditional same-day delivery services.

Potential for Growth

The retailer indicated that successful performance in North Carolina could lead to geographic expansion. Management plans to evaluate operational data and customer feedback before implementing modifications or scaling the program.

Godbole noted that the technology team maintains daily oversight of the pilot location. She emphasized the company’s flexible methodology, allowing rapid adjustments based on performance metrics and user experience data.

The home improvement retailer joins other major players exploring aerial delivery solutions. Walmart (WMT) announced earlier in 2026 its intention to extend its Wing collaboration to over 270 locations by 2027.

Meanwhile, Amazon (AMZN) continues advancing its presence in this sector. The e-commerce leader revealed plans last month to deploy its Prime Air service across nearly 500 municipalities before year-end.

Lowe’s generated over $86 billion in fiscal 2025 revenue. The company maintains more than 1,750 retail locations and has a workforce exceeding 300,000 employees.

Analyst sentiment on Wall Street currently favors LOW with a Moderate Buy consensus. This assessment stems from 16 Buy recommendations and 7 Hold ratings, per TipRanks tracking.

The consensus price target for LOW stands at $253.50. This projection indicates potential appreciation of approximately 33% from present trading levels.

Among analysts following the company, the most optimistic price target reaches $275. Wing’s existing drone infrastructure in the Charlotte region provided Lowe’s with an operational framework for rapid deployment.
