Three masked men broke into the home of a couple in their 60s in southwestern France, tied them up and demanded cryptocurrency before fleeing with a laptop and mobile phones. The 63-year-old husband suffered a head injury during the attack.

The home invasion in Mont-de-Marsan, in France’s Landes department, was reported on October 22, 2026. The intruders entered the property during the early morning hours, reportedly around 3 a.m., and threatened the occupants while attempting to obtain cryptocurrency.

Investigators are examining whether the victims were targeted because of their son, who works in the cryptocurrency industry. He has since been placed under police protection, while the three suspects remain at large.

No cryptocurrency transfers have been confirmed, and the value of the stolen electronic devices has not been disclosed.

Police Investigate Possible Connection to Couple’s Son

The attackers restrained both residents after entering the house and demanded access to cryptocurrency holdings. During the confrontation, the husband sustained a head injury, although the severity of his injuries has not been publicly established.

The intruders eventually escaped with a laptop and phones. Investigators are examining whether the family connection to the cryptocurrency industry played a role in selecting the victims.

The couple’s son is receiving police protection as authorities continue their search for the suspects. No arrests or recovered property had been reported as of October 22.

The theft of electronic devices also leaves unanswered questions about whether the attackers obtained access to cryptocurrency wallets, account credentials or other sensitive information. Authorities have not established that any digital assets were successfully stolen.

France Faces Another Crypto-Linked Home Invasion

The incident follows a series of violent robberies and attempted kidnappings targeting cryptocurrency investors, industry employees and their relatives across France.

On September 20, four masked intruders held a family captive in Vendin-le-Vieil, northern France. They tied up a couple and their two children, assaulted the father and forced him to transfer approximately €40,000 in cryptocurrency.

Earlier in February, three armed suspects targeted Binance France President David Prinçay during an unsuccessful home invasion. The group also attacked another household before police arrested the suspects in Lyon.

In May, the wife of The Sandbox co-founder Sébastien Borget was targeted in an attempted kidnapping near Paris. Neighbors intervened as masked attackers tried to force her into a vehicle, and two suspects were subsequently arrested.

The latest attack occurred in the same department where another couple was abducted in August by criminals seeking access to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Two suspects were later arrested in that investigation.

In the Mont-de-Marsan case, police have not disclosed the identities of the attackers, whether they knew the victims personally or how they obtained the family’s address. The investigation remains open, with the stolen laptop and phones the only publicly identified proceeds.
