MetaMask has added Stellar as a default network in its mobile app and browser extension. The move was announced at the Stellar Development Foundation's Meridian conference in Lisbon, with MetaMask saying the integration is live. @MetaMask and @StellarOrg both marked the launch on Oct. 29.

Eligible accounts now include a Stellar address tied to the recovery phrase users already hold. They can hold, send and swap $XLM and other Stellar tokens alongside assets on other networks without setting up a separate wallet.

What MetaMask Users Get

According to MetaMask's announcement, users can manage XLM, trustline assets and Soroban tokens next to holdings on other networks. They can also swap between Stellar and other supported networks. Soroban is Stellar's smart contract platform.

MetaMask describes itself as the first major self-custodial platform to make Stellar a default network. It said that until now, users who wanted to transact on Stellar needed a separate wallet. Reporting from TokenPost adds that users who already hold Stellar accounts can import their recovery phrases into MetaMask to move those accounts across.

The same report says MetaMask Chief Product Officer Gal Eldar framed the integration as part of the company's "Open Money" strategy, which aims to extend the same payment infrastructure to all users.

Stellar's Payments Track Record

Stellar has operated as a public payments network since 2014. Stellar's own figures cite a settlement time of about five seconds and an average transaction cost below a tenth of a cent. MetaMask's release also cites the Stellar Development Foundation as saying the network processed $55.6 billion in payment volume in 2025, up 52% year over year.

A new Stellar address becomes active only once it receives a minimum balance. Cointelegraph's explainer puts that minimum at 1 XLM. Adding a token such as USDC also requires a trustline, which carries an additional reserve of 0.5 XLM, according to PrimeXBT's glossary.

Market reaction has been muted so far. Crypto News Flash reported XLM trading near $0.1727 on Thursday, almost flat on the day, and noted that wallet access alone does not create on-chain demand for the token.
