Midnight Network, the privacy-focused blockchain backed by @IOGroup, has logged several milestones in the weeks since it opened its mainnet to open smart contract deployment. @MidnightNtwrk activity has risen sharply, while the $NIGHT token has gained in the past week.
Open deployment drives network activity
The main change came in early October, when developers gained the ability to deploy smart contracts on the Midnight mainnet without a mandatory security review. CoinMarketCap reports that developers no longer need to complete a security review on a preproduction environment before deploying contracts to mainnet. A separate account from Crypto Benelux dates the change to 2 October, and says applications can now deploy contracts on behalf of their users.
Usage has followed. CoinMarketCap data shows the mainnet crossed one million total transactions, with daily activity peaking at 49,229 on 25 October. In the original timeline, daily activity rose from about 130 to nearly 48,000 over a month.
Midnight is a partner chain of Cardano. According to Dune's documentation, it uses zero-knowledge proofs and a language called Compact for programmable privacy. NIGHT is its native utility and governance token, and holding it generates DUST, a shielded, non-transferable resource used to pay transaction fees.
Quantum Alliance, roadmap and price
The Midnight Foundation is also a founding member of the Quantum Alliance. The Vault, another founding member, describes the group as an open standards body for post-quantum readiness in blockchain networks, wallets and infrastructure. Its nine founding organizations also include Quantus, Postquant Labs, Keystone, Abelian and Hacken. Reports on the launch date vary slightly, with some outlets citing 15 October.
Cardano founder @IOHK_Charles said on 9 October that he expects Midnight to grow bigger than Zcash. That is a forecast, not a measured outcome. On 28 October, Midnight published a roadmap running through early 2027, which includes $NIGHT staking.
On price, the token trades at $0.0425, up 5.8% over the week and 6.4% over 24 hours. That is below the $0.0486 level cited in The Crypto Gem after the permissionless launch, a reminder that short-term moves in newly launched tokens can be volatile. The same newsletter notes that claimed NIGHT allocations unlock in four equal tranches, 90 days apart, across a 360-day period, which affects the supply available to holders.
Whether the rise in transactions reflects lasting developer demand or a short burst after the rule change will be clearer as the roadmap items arrive.
