On that date, Midnight Network enabled permissionless smart contract deployment on its mainnet. According to CoinMarketCap, the change removed a key gating factor for developers, allowing any builder to deploy contracts without centralized approval. Previously, developers were required to pass a mandatory security review before pushing contracts to the network. That requirement has now been dropped.
The shift is significant. GNCrypto News noted that developers can now deploy smart contracts directly to the mainnet, and applications can deploy contracts on behalf of their users, removing a friction point from the onboarding process.
Midnight Network has operated since March 2026. The October 2 upgrade represents a planned step from a more controlled deployment model toward a fully open ecosystem. The network uses zero-knowledge proofs, a technology that allows an application to verify specific information without exposing the underlying data. That privacy focus has attracted a range of institutional partners, including Google Cloud, Worldpay, MoneyGram, eToro, and Vodafone's Pairpoint, among others operating or supporting infrastructure on the network.
Looking ahead, a v9 composability upgrade is expected in Q4 2026. That release is expected to introduce contract-to-contract calls, account abstraction, token-standard events, and shared liquidity tools, which would enable a richer application layer on the network.
As of October 5, NIGHT was facing overhead resistance in the $0.052 to $0.055 range after its weekly rally. Market capitalization stood at approximately $833 million at the time of the most recent trading data.
