Key Insights:

  • Midnight (NIGHT) price rose 13.2% as Midnight announced permissionless mainnet deployment.
  • Wallet integrations and fee sponsorship tools expand Midnight application support.
  • Midnight’s market cap reached $809.47 million, while trading volume fell 18.16%.

Midnight price rose 13.2% to $0.04874 at press time, while the foundation announced permissionless mainnet contract deployment.

The upgrade allows developers to launch smart contracts directly without a required security review on Preprod. It also enables contracts to deploy additional contracts on behalf of users.

According to the Midnight Foundation, these capabilities expand development options across decentralized finance, gaming, and privacy applications.

Applications can now deploy contracts for end users, streamlining their onboarding process. The foundation described the change as a planned step in the network’s development.

Midnight Token: Mainnet Upgrade Expands Direct Deployment

The transition follows Midnight’s March launch, when the network initially prioritized operational stability, security, and developer preparation.

During that structured phase, early application teams tested software logic and optimized performance within a controlled environment. The latest release moves the network into permissionless smart contract deployment.

Although developers no longer face the required review, the foundation still recommends testing applications in Preprod before production deployment.

That environment mirrors the Midnight network and allows teams to optimize application logic before launching. Further roadmap objectives will expand core protocol capabilities and increase network decentralization.

Alongside the deployment changes, Midnight Node version 1.0.3 introduces security patches across all network environments.

The release addresses an npm reliance alert and removes debugging utilities to protect validator memory. It also updates historical block import logic, while operators have to upgrade node binaries before applying runtime updates.

Wallet Integrations and Pilots Support Application Development

The network update also outlines infrastructure available through Google Cloud Web3, including a dedicated Midnight protocol page.

Developers can review infrastructure details and request testnet NIGHT tokens through its faucet. These tokens go directly to developers’ wallet addresses through the Google Cloud Web3 portal.

Meanwhile, Gero Wallet released version 2.7.1 on September 16, adding full Midnight decentralized application support.

The update includes shielded mainnet balances and a connector that proves, funds, and submits transactions for users. It also supports Midnight tokens, including USDM, and introduces sponsored DUST fees.

Within Gero, one Midnight wallet can use its generated DUST to sponsor fees for another wallet. Separately, Ura Labs launched its Relay Club pilot on Preprod on September 8. The pilot lets developers sponsor application fees through an API, so end users do not need to hold DUST.

Other Preprod development includes Noctis Zone, a token launchpad featuring the DarkVeil privacy tool.

DarkVeil conceals purchase data during a token sale’s first 24 hours and verifies purchasing limits through zero-knowledge proofs. This process keeps individual wallet addresses and transaction amounts private.

Payment development was also featured in VIA Labs’ completed cross-chain sprint, which attracted 37 developer participants.

The sprint recorded 12 USDM transfers from Cardano to Midnight and produced five completed payment applications. Teams submitted functioning applications demonstrating private invoicing models using USDM on Midnight.

Midnight Price Recovers Despite Lower Trading Volume

CoinMarketCap chart showed Midnight price falling from approximately $0.04428 toward $0.037 before stabilizing. It then recovered to $0.040 and $0.042, then rose above $0.045, approaching $0.049.

In addition to the NIGHT token price surge, its market capitalization increased by13.28% to $809.47 million, placing NIGHT 72nd in CoinMarketCap’s rankings.

However, reported 24-hour trading volume declined 18.16%, meaning the price advance coincided with lower turnover. For Midnight price, the chart places an upside reference near $0.049, with the reclaimed $0.04428 level below.
