Mirae Asset, one of South Korea’s largest financial groups, has finalized its acquisition of the Korean cryptocurrency exchange Korbit and rebranded it as Digital X. This move establishes Digital X as the central pillar of Mirae Asset’s broader digital asset strategy, focusing on tokenized real-world assets and integrating blockchain technology with traditional investment models.

Rebranding Korbit as Digital X

Following regulatory approval, Mirae Asset, through its consulting arm, secured a 97.15% ownership stake in Korbit. With the acquisition completed, the platform now operates under the name Digital X. This rebranding initiative is part of the group’s overarching digital finance plan, known as Mirae Asset 3.0, which aims to transform its financial services through innovation and technology.

Mirae Asset combines its expertise in asset management with Korbit’s experience as a pioneering crypto exchange established in 2013. Instead of focusing solely on crypto trading, the strategy seeks to develop a wide-ranging investment ecosystem leveraging blockchain-based assets, security tokens, and stablecoins.

The new Digital X platform is positioned to create a bridge between traditional financial products and blockchain-native assets. As a result, Mirae Asset aims for Digital X to function as a key infrastructure for the digital economy rather than simply a standard cryptocurrency exchange.

Focus on Tokenization and Investor Services

The Digital X development plan places strong emphasis on tokenizing real-world assets, launching security token offerings, and the use of stablecoins for integrated investment instruments. The platform will also provide research, education, and analytical services tailored to both institutional and retail investors seeking exposure to digital assets.

Mirae Asset stated that Digital X is designed to support the next stage of financial product innovation, serving as a hub for tokenized financial services beyond simple crypto transactions. The group’s leadership believes that the future of finance lies in combining regulatory compliance, blockchain transparency, and user education.

Digital X brings together our investment expertise and Korbit’s digital asset technology to deliver a unified ecosystem for traditional and blockchain-based finance.

Regulatory Compliance and Seamless User Transition

Regulatory compliance forms a core principle in Digital X’s operations, with strict protocols on anti-money laundering, customer verification, fraud prevention, and information security. Mirae Asset confirmed that Digital X aligns with South Korea’s evolving digital asset regulatory framework, adhering to recent legal standards such as the Virtual Asset User Protection Act to safeguard clients’ assets.

Korbit’s existing users have transitioned to Digital X with uninterrupted access to their accounts and services. Deposits, withdrawals, trading, and account management remain fully functional and unaffected by the ownership change. Mirae Asset continues to maintain segregated custody for user assets in compliance with statutory requirements.

Strategic Vision for Future Growth

Mirae Asset clarified it does not plan to acquire remaining minority stakes, and current management will focus on improving Digital X through technological innovation and operational excellence. The company pointed out that sustainable competitiveness will depend on robust infrastructure rather than pure trading volumes.

Despite Korbit’s current market share sitting below one percent in South Korea, Mirae Asset expects that Digital X can become a leader in tokenized finance as digital assets integrate further into mainstream financial services.

Mirae Asset envisions Digital X as the essential foundation for its tokenized asset and digital finance growth strategy.
