Leading telecoms company MTN Nigeria has officially announced the launch of its FlyX broadband solution to expand the penetration of high-speed internet in Nigeria.
In a statement seen by Technext on Tuesday, MTN said FlyX, an outdoor unit router (ODU), aims to deliver speed, unlimited data, reliability, and a seamless internet experience for Nigerian homes and businesses. The tool is built with indoor components powered by the operator’s 4G and 5G capabilities.
The introduction comes at a time of rapid internet penetration. It also represents another of MTN Nigeria’s responses to the recent spike in data usage, demand for high-speed internet and the continual expansion of broadband solutions through devices and infrastructural expansion.
Investment in telecoms towers, spectrum expansion and fibre optic cable rollouts is a significant basis to power broadband expansion in Nigeria. These strategies are a response to the continual smartphone adoption and increase in both telecom and internet users in Nigeria.
MTN Nigeria’s Chief Broadband Officer (CBO), Egerton Idehen While reacting to the launch of FlyX, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Broadband Officer, Egerton Idehen, explained that the operator’s focus is on building solutions that respond to real connectivity challenges. He noted that FlyX is to ensure that more people can participate fully in the digital economy, regardless of their location.
“FlyX is a clear example of how we are using our network strength to rethink broadband delivery, making it faster to deploy, easier to access, and more responsive to the needs of Nigerians,” he added.
The company said the innovation forms part of its broader strategy to deepen broadband penetration and drive digital inclusion in Nigeria.
With the official rollout, Nigerians can get FlyX across the operator’s stores nationwide at ₦30,000.

FlyX: MTN’$ FibreX alternativeMTN FibreX, the Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband network, has received significant interest from internet subscribers since it was rebranded in early 2025.
While FibreX promises users speeds of up to 1Gbps, unlimited data and ultra‑low latency for gaming, cloud, work‑from‑home and smart home devices, it has yet to roll out across the country.
MTN noted that FlyX will provide homes where FibreX is yet to reach with an alternative. In order to connect more Nigerians to broadband internet, FlyX offers a more flexible pathway to broadband, extending coverage to urban, peri-urban, and underserved areas where deployment challenges have historically limited access to reliable internet.
“This approach allows us to bridge critical gaps, particularly in areas where fibre is not yet available, while still delivering the speed and reliability required for today’s digital lifestyles,” Egerton said.
The leading telecom operator added that the ODUs are designed to capture stronger signals in areas where indoor reception is weak and fibre is not yet available, extending reliable, high-speed internet to more homes and businesses.
FlyX In its H1 2026 earnings, MTN Nigeria delivered ₦3 trillion in service revenue, largely driven by ₦1.70 trillion in data revenue, with ₦993 billion from voice and ₦77 billion from fintech.
MTN plans to onboard over 8 million homes to its broadband network by 2028.
