The tech billionaire announced the project on X this week, resharing a three-minute clip that a fan had built with the tool and offered no further detail on budget or release.
Grok Imagine belongs to his company xAI, which has pushed hard to widen its image and video features as rivals race to build creative AI systems.
Musk also floated a backup plan.
He said he would put up $100 million for a traditional adaptation directed by Mel Gibson, one built around faithful ships, armor and weapons.
The clip he shared, however, showed its own slips, from an Odysseus in what looked like earplugs to trees shaped like flying saucers.

Musk's fight with the film stretches back months, well before its release. He brandedChristopher Nolan an anti-White racist in the spring, zeroing in on the casting of Lupita Nyong'o, a Black actress, as Helen of Troy.
Other critics faulted the choice of Elliot Page, a transgender actor, and the thin presence of Greek performers in lead roles.
The final trailer drew more than 542,000 dislikes by fan tallies, and the account behind the film limited comments as tempers flared. Viewers also panned modern American accents and dialogue they judged too flat for an ancient epic. Nolan has brushed the criticism aside, and told one outlet that such debates stay irrelevant until audiences watch the movie.
A feature-length AI movie would test the outer limits of the technology, which so far handles short scenes far better than long, coherent narratives.
Classicists add a blunter point, and stress that Homer's poem is fiction, its world stocked with a cyclops and a witch who turns men into pigs.
For all the noise, the backlash has not dented the film's reach. It took a record $264.1 million worldwide in its opening weekend, the strongest debut of Nolan's career. The tally handed Universal Pictures' biggest launch ever for an R-rated title, above The Dark Knight Rises.
