$NEAR rose about 12% in 24 hours to $5.36, while @injective's $INJ added 11% to $8.47, according to CoinMarketCap readings from around 20:30 UTC on Thursday, Oct 15, 2026. The total crypto market gained less than 1% to $2.76 trillion over the same period. Over the past month, NEAR Protocol is up 132% and Injective is up 56%.
Both tokens bounced from Thursday's lows, which came after Wednesday's higher-than-expected US inflation data. Both turned higher at about 13:30 UTC. No specific catalyst for either move has been confirmed.
Inflation data preceded Thursday's dip
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its September CPI release, published on Wednesday, Oct 14, that consumer prices rose 3.7% over the 12 months to September. Prices excluding food and energy rose 2.6% over the year. Fox Business reported that consumer inflation rose faster than expected. Higher-than-expected readings usually point to interest rates staying higher for longer, which tends to weigh on risk assets such as crypto.
Injective fell sharply on Thursday morning. A CoinMarketCap item published at 02:05 UTC on Oct 15 put the drop at 6.7%, and the token was down about 10% over 24 hours by 10:53 UTC. The move came after the CPI print. The later rebound follows a one-day dip, and both tokens remain well up over the past month.
NEAR proposal would cut token issuance
Separately, Sal Ternullo, CEO of SVRN, has put forward a proposal on the NEAR Governance Forum to cut NEAR's maximum annual issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months, according to a TradingView News report that summarises his post. The proposal was not made by the NEAR Protocol itself.
The same report says the post estimates staking yield would fall from about 5.4% to roughly 3.5% at the target rate, and that the ramp would avoid about 66 million NEAR of issuance over six years. The existing 90/10 split of issuance between stakers and the treasury would stay in place. The proposal has not been approved or implemented. It would need a House of Stake vote, followed by validator adoption through the standard upgrade process.
Lower issuance reduces dilution for holders, but it also cuts rewards for stakers and validators.
