Netflix Drops FTX Show Trailer: When Does The Altruists Come Out?

Netflix has released the first official trailer for The Altruists, its upcoming limited series about the spectacular rise and collapse of crypto exchange FTX.

The eight-episode drama will premiere globally on Netflix on Nov. 19, 2026. Anthony Boyle will be portraying FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and Julia Garner will play former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison.

The Altruists focuses heavily on the relationship between Bankman-Fried and Ellison as they helped build a multibillion-dollar crypto empire before FTX collapsed in November of 2022.

Netflix describes the pair as two highly ambitious young idealists who set out to reshape the global financial system, only to become embroiled in an alleged $8 billion fraud. The trailer offers the clearest look yet at how the series will portray their relationship, FTX's quick growth and the events leading up to the exchange's downfall.

The series is inspired by reporting from New York Magazine and Vox Media and is led by co-showrunners Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt. Moore previously wrote The Imitation Game, while James Ponsoldt directed the first episode.

Higher Ground Productions, the company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, is also involved in the project through its ongoing creative partnership with Netflix. 

Garner and Boyle are joined by a supporting cast that includes Paul Reiser as Joe Bankman, Robin Weigert as Barbara Fried, Maddie Hasson and Marianna Phung.

The real FTX story became one of the defining scandals of the crypto industry. Bankman-Fried was ultimately convicted on fraud and conspiracy charges after the exchange's collapse, which left customers facing billions of dollars in losses.

The Altruists is now alongside a growing number of productions examining high-profile financial and technology failures. All eight episodes of The Altruists are scheduled to arrive on Netflix on Nov. 19.
