Midnight, a Cardano sidechain focused on privacy-centric smart contracts, has been pushing forward on its core technical roadmap. Sebastien Guillemot, chief technology officer at the Midnight Foundation, provided updates regarding the imminent launch of smart contracts on the network.
On September 19, Guillemot signaled that mainnet support for smart contract deployment was near. He emphasized the significance of enabling private smart contracts, which will also allow the minting of custom tokens with privacy features.
Midnight Node 1.0.3 was released on September 26. Guillemot described this as the final major technical update required before smart contract deployment goes live.
Guillemot pointed out that with v8, developers gain access to private smart contracts, while composability is anticipated to follow in v9, which could be launched later this year.
The CTO noted that with the rollout of v8, development teams can start preparing their applications ahead of the next major milestone. This accelerated schedule includes a Midnight Node 1.0.4 update, which is expected to debut on mainnet soon.
