  • Hadron platform will support discussions on digital asset issuance.

The NSE Tether Partnership has introduced a framework to study tokenized securities, blockchain infrastructure, and digital asset education in Kenya. The Nairobi Securities Exchange and Tether signed a memorandum of understanding on July 28. The agreement explores the use of Tether’s Hadron platform and possible USDT settlement solutions where regulations allow.

NSE Tether Partnership Examines Blockchain Market Systems

The NSE Tether Partnership focuses on creating a potential framework for tokenized real-world assets. The parties will study digital versions of securities, including possible fractional access for local and diaspora investors.

Tether’s Hadron platform provides tools for issuing, transferring, and managing tokenized assets. However, the platform does not act as the issuer or guarantee of assets created through the system.

The agreement also covers instant settlement methods and blockchain-based market infrastructure. The companies stated that USDT could be assessed as a settlement layer where Kenyan rules permit its use.

No trading platform, tokenized security launch, or confirmed implementation date has been announced. The partnership remains an exploratory agreement between the two organizations.

NSE Tether Partnership Faces Kenya Regulatory Review

The NSE Tether Partnership will depend on Kenya’s existing digital asset rules. The Virtual Asset Service Providers Act places token issuance and tokenization activities under regulatory oversight from the Capital Markets Authority.

The law also assigns stablecoin oversight to the Central Bank of Kenya. Any future tokenized securities project would require approvals, compliance systems, custody arrangements, and clear investor protections.

The NSE has previously explored blockchain-based financial products. The exchange joined other firms to develop digital market solutions focused on tokenized equities, debt instruments, funds, and commodities.

Tether brings experience in stablecoins and real-world asset infrastructure. USDT currently holds a market capitalization of about $184 billion, while tokenized real-world assets excluding stablecoins reached nearly $36.9 billion, according to RWA.xyz data.

The next stages will involve reviewing possible assets, legal structures, custody models, and technical requirements before any market product is introduced.
