Attention Shifts to Wyoming Symposium

Investor focus has shifted to Warsh, who will present his inaugural keynote address as Federal Reserve chair at the Kansas City Fed’s annual gathering. The speech is slated for 10 a.m. ET Friday.

Market participants are seeking clarity on monetary policy direction and inflation strategy following uncertainty created by Warsh’s position at the most recent Federal Reserve meeting. Central bank policymakers continue to show disagreement regarding additional rate increases.

Price growth has persisted above the Federal Reserve’s objective, with latest economic indicators revealing inflation running warmer than projections. This dynamic has maintained longer-duration Treasury yields at elevated levels approaching multi-year peaks.

Both 10-year and 30-year Treasury yields held relatively stable in anticipation of the address.

Among individual companies, Marvell Technology declined approximately 7% despite presenting a favorable business outlook. The company’s projected non-GAAP gross margin fell short of Wall Street forecasts, pressuring the shares.

Gap stock rallied more than 13% during extended hours following the apparel retailer’s release of second-quarter results that exceeded expectations. The company simultaneously announced Michael Francis’s appointment as chief executive of its Old Navy division.

PayPal stock tumbled nearly 14% in after-market activity after Bloomberg disclosed that Advent International and Stripe withdrew their acquisition proposal for the digital payments provider.

Crude oil prices moved modestly higher Thursday. The Wall Street Journal published a report indicating President Trump has rejected returning to provisions outlined in a June understanding with Iran.

Friday’s calendar contains no significant corporate earnings releases. The University of Michigan will publish its consumer sentiment index, potentially providing perspective on American attitudes regarding current economic circumstances.
