Nvidia Expands Washington Presence With Employee PAC
Nvidia filed paperwork to create the Nvidia Corporation Employees Federal Political Action Committee. Eligible employees can contribute up to $5,000 annually under federal election rules. The PAC can direct those funds toward candidates from both major parties and political committees.
The company has also increased federal lobbying as lawmakers consider national rules for artificial intelligence. Nvidia spent more than $2.5 million on federal lobbying this year. It also hired Bruce Andrews as chief external affairs officer to strengthen government relations.
Andrews previously worked at Intel and served within the U.S. Commerce Department. His appointment adds policy experience as Nvidia faces growing scrutiny around advanced chip exports. The company now has a stronger platform to engage policymakers on technology, trade, and industry rules.
Tech Industry Increases Political Spending Before Midterms
Nvidia joins a wider technology industry campaign to gain influence over federal technology policy. Anthropic created a federal PAC earlier this year, while other AI companies increased lobbying activity. OpenAI and Anthropic spent $3.17 million on lobbying during the second quarter.
That combined spending increased 23% from the first quarter, according to federal lobbying disclosures. The rise reflects growing competition over rules covering artificial intelligence development and deployment. Technology companies also seek clearer federal standards as states adopt separate requirements.
Political spending has also increased ahead of the 2026 U.S. midterm elections. Elon Musk has contributed about $90.6 million during the current election cycle. His America PAC received more than $50 million and largely supports Republican candidates.
AI Policy Debate Adds Strategic Importance for Nvidia
Nvidia’s political expansion comes while its core chip business continues strong growth. Demand for computing infrastructure has supported the company’s revenue and market value. The company also remains central to data center spending across the technology sector.
The Trump administration introduced a National AI Policy Framework in March. The plan asks Congress to create one national structure for artificial intelligence regulation. It covers safety, child protection, and possible limits on separate state rules.
Congress has not set a firm deadline for passing or implementing the federal framework. States continue developing their own rules while federal lawmakers debate broader standards. Nvidia’s new PAC gives employees another channel to support candidates involved in those policy decisions.
