Ondo Finance has announced a new strategic partnership with Kakaopay Securities designed to accelerate the international distribution and tokenization of Korean-listed equities. The agreement aims to bridge traditional financial markets and blockchain technology, providing new channels for global retail investors seeking access to Korean stocks.
Comprehensive Collaboration to Enable Global Access
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate across three main areas: developing an international distribution framework for Korean-listed equities, conducting joint research on tokenization infrastructure, and forming a joint task force to explore opportunities for overseas retail investors.
Kakaopay Securities, an affiliate of Kakao specializing in digital securities services and brokerage, brings domestic equity infrastructure and expertise. Ondo Finance, known for its suite of tokenized real-world asset (RWA) products, will provide global reach and experience in the distribution of blockchain-based financial instruments.
Initial plans include Kakaopay Securities establishing a foreign-investor omnibus account. This account structure will handle the sourcing, custody, and administration of underlying Korean-listed shares, potentially laying the groundwork for tokenized equity products in the future.
Alongside account infrastructure, the partnership involves researching token issuance and redemption processes, balance management, and technical reconciliation between traditional and blockchain systems.
Despite the collaboration, officials stated that tokenized equity products will not be introduced immediately. Launch timing will depend on legal and regulatory requirements, as well as investor protection standards in both domestic and international markets.
Kakaopay Securities Executive Vice President Chung Inyoung highlighted rising global interest in Korean equities and emphasized the goal of turning international distribution into a practical service through this partnership with what is described as the world’s largest tokenized equity platform.
Recent Product Expansion and Technology Developments
Ondo Finance recently expanded its tokenization lineup with the launch of Intelligent Portfolios on September 24, offering on-chain portfolios based on investment strategies developed by BlackRock. The initial options—BLKHIon, BLKDIGon, and BLKGRWon—are available to qualified investors outside the United States and are designed to provide diversified exposure via blockchain-issued tokens.
Instead of tying investment to a single asset, these portfolios package various strategies into a transferrable on-chain token.
Ondo’s approach emphasizes features such as programmatic rebalancing, on-chain transparency, and easy composability with other decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, allowing investors to manage and adjust their portfolios with improved efficiency.
Mini dictionary: Tokenization infrastructure refers to the systems and processes that enable the transformation of traditional financial assets, such as stocks or bonds, into digital tokens on a blockchain. This allows fractional ownership, easier transferability, and potential integration with global digital markets.

South Korea’s Role in Ondo’s International Strategy
The push into South Korea comes as the country emerges as a major center for digital asset innovation in East Asia. Ondo Finance views South Korea as a key market for advancing access to tokenized real-world assets and diversifying its global footprint.
The coordination with Kakaopay Securities is poised to unlock new models for global distribution, leveraging Kakaopay’s local market strength and Ondo’s expertise in tokenized solutions. A joint task force is expected to be operational within this year to develop the necessary framework for custody and distribution infrastructure around tokenized equity.
Ondo Finance’s new partnership marks a significant step in building bridges between Korea’s traditional financial systems and next-generation blockchain technology, with further progress contingent on regulatory and technical advances.
