Ondo Finance Opens On-Chain Access to Private Company Exposure

@OndoFinance has launched Ondo Private Markets, a new on-chain infrastructure layer designed to give eligible investors tokenized exposure to some of the world's leading private companies before they go public. Announced on October 6 from Greenwich, Connecticut, the platform launches its first market this week with permissionless trading available 24/7 on secondary markets.

The first market references a pre-IPO AI company, with exposure to companies across robotics, cybersecurity, biotech, and infrastructure planned to follow. The move takes direct aim at one of the most persistent frustrations in venture investing: illiquidity. Ondo Private Markets is built to provide targeted exposure to top-performing private companies on permissionless blockchain rails, allowing eligible investors to enter, exit, or adjust positions at any time without waiting for an IPO to realize liquidity.

Ondo Finance noted that roughly 87% of companies generating over $100 million in annual revenue in the United States remain private. Traditional access to these assets has been limited to institutional investors and venture funds, often with multi-year lockup periods and fragmented over-the-counter broker desks handling secondary trades.

Tokenized Notes, Not Equity: What Investors Are Actually Getting

It is important to understand the structure of the product. The tokens do not represent equity or shares in the underlying companies. Instead, they provide holders with economic exposure tied to the performance of the company's common stock in qualified liquidity events, such as an IPO or acquisition. The tokens are obligations of the issuer and are available only to eligible non-U.S. investors in permitted jurisdictions.

The tokens can be freely transferred on-chain and integrated with DeFi ecosystems.Ondo's tokenized stocks and Treasuries platforms together carry $3.7 billion in total value locked and more than 1 million cumulative holders. The launch extends Ondo's broader push into tokenized financial assets. In July, the company partnered with Japan's SBI Holdings to tokenize Japanese equities through Ondo Global Markets, with SBI planning to distribute Ondo products across its network and use its JPYSC stablecoin for settlement and collateral.
