Platform-wide transaction volume registered a 13% year-over-year decrease, settling at $310 billion for the quarter. The company attributed this contraction to subdued crypto spot trading activity, noting that this weakness affected the entire industry rather than being specific to its operations.
Profitability remained intact on an adjusted basis despite reduced trading volumes. The company recorded adjusted EBITDA of $23 million for the three-month period ending June 30.
Asset-based and alternative revenue streams now represent 60% of total income, an expansion from the 55% share recorded in the prior year period. This shift indicates that Payward is increasingly generating revenue from staking services, custody solutions and various other offerings beyond standard trading commissions.
The platform’s funded account base surged 42% year-over-year to reach 6.6 million users. Assets under platform custody totaled $40 billion at quarter end.
According to Payward, the company captured additional spot market share for the third consecutive quarter, defying the industry-wide decline in spot trading volumes.
The firm highlighted expansion in equity products, tokenized equity offerings and conventional futures contracts as growth areas that offset weakness in cryptocurrency spot markets.
Payward has pursued an aggressive acquisition strategy to expand its financial product suite. The company finalized its acquisition of derivatives platform Bitnomial on May 1, rounding out its regulated derivatives capabilities in the United States.
On July 1, the company integrated stablecoin payments provider Reap into its operations. Later in July, Payward announced plans to acquire Magic Labs’ wallet infrastructure division to enhance its enterprise service offerings.
These transactions follow the company’s May 2025 purchase of futures trading platform NinjaTrader, among other strategic additions.
Throughout the quarter, Payward rolled out multiple product launches. New offerings included compliant spot margin trading and perpetual futures for U.S. customers, tokenized pre-IPO investment opportunities and cryptocurrency-collateralized lending products.
The company’s DeFi Earn Bitcoin Vault attracted approximately $400 million in customer deposits.
Payward also highlighted accelerating growth in European markets following its compliance authorization under MiCA, the comprehensive cryptocurrency regulatory framework adopted by the European Union.
Co-CEO Arjun Sethi characterized the company’s approach as developing “one platform rather than a collection of products,” integrating cryptocurrency, equities, derivatives and regulated financial services infrastructure.
The company placed its initial public offering plans on hold earlier in 2026 and has yet to disclose a revised timeline for pursuing a stock market listing.
The quarterly results demonstrate a company systematically decreasing its reliance on cryptocurrency spot trading revenues, with payment services, tokenized asset products and derivatives contracts assuming increasingly important roles in its expansion strategy.
