Peaq Brings Human Verification to the Machine Economy
@Peaq has officially integrated @worldnetwork's World ID into peaqOS, adding a privacy-preserving identity layer that allows machines and robots to confirm they are interacting with a verified human, without collecting any biometric data in the process.
The implementation addresses a growing challenge in decentralized physical infrastructure: how to establish trust between autonomous machines and the people they serve, particularly in high-stakes scenarios such as medication delivery in smart city environments like Seoul. A peaq-powered machine can now verify both ends of a transaction: its own identity through peaq's machine ID system, and the human's identity through World ID's proof-of-personhood credential.
Zero-Knowledge Proofs at the Core
The system relies on zero-knowledge cryptography to confirm a user's humanity without exposing personal information. Zero-knowledge proofs verify that a person is a unique human without sharing personal information with the third party requesting the proof, and they also protect World ID from being tracked across applications or tied to any biometric data.
The proof-of-personhood verification process involves the Orb, a high-tech camera, taking images of a user's eyes and face to confirm they are a real and unique human. This process occurs only once. After that, the verified World ID is stored on the user's phone in the World App, where it can be used to sign into online apps and services. After verification, the data is encrypted, sent to the phone, and permanently deleted from the Orb. Only the user's phone holds their data and their World ID.
The integration taps into a network with considerable scale. More than 39 million people have joined World Network, with more than 18 million humans verified by an Orb. The network has utilized more than 475 million World ID proofs since its launch. That reach spans 160 countries, giving peaqOS access to a ready-made, globally distributed identity layer for the DePIN sector.
Peaq Network is a Layer 1 blockchain designed specifically for Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN) and Real World Assets (RWA). The World ID integration slots into its architecture as the human-facing counterpart to the machine identity tools peaq already provides. The move signals a broader push to close the identity gap in autonomous machine networks, where verifying the human side of a transaction has historically lagged behind machine-side verification capabilities.
