Summary

  • Peter Brandt criticizes unquestioning XRP loyalty while maintaining that its price chart independently offers a potential reason to consider ownership.
  • Brandt identifies $1.50 to $1.60 as the neckline for a possible inverse head-and-shoulders pattern requiring a breakout for bullish confirmation.
  • XRP supporters dispute Brandt’s concerns about payment utility and supply, while he cautions that publishing charts does not establish trades.

Veteran trader Peter Brandt has criticized the devotion of some XRP supporters while maintaining that the cryptocurrency’s chart interests him. His remarks distinguish an investor’s willingness to buy XRP from an obligation to defend every claim about its value.

According to Brandt’s post on X, investors need not become “certified cult” members to take an interest in XRP. He explained that price charts have long given his trading team sufficient reason to consider placing a bet. Brandt also warned against treating unquestioning loyalty as open-mindedness, directing his criticism at investors rather than XRP ownership itself.

That distinction adds context to a dispute Brandt has had with members of the XRP community over the token’s investment appeal. He has acknowledged that XRP can handle transactions efficiently and cheaply, yet questions whether payment utility alone supports its valuation. Brandt has also raised concerns about XRP’s substantial supply, prompting supporters to challenge his assessment of the cryptocurrency.

However, his criticism of investor behavior has not prevented him from examining a potentially bullish pattern on XRP’s weekly chart. The chart gives his latest comments an unusual balance, combining skepticism about devoted holders with interest in a possible price breakout.

Brandt’s Weekly XRP Chart Points to a Potential Break Above $1.60

The chart traces a lengthy consolidation following XRP’s 2017 rally and shows a breakout from that structure in late 2024. More recent price movements appear to form an inverse head-and-shoulders pattern, although that formation remains open to interpretation.

The pattern consists of a lower middle trough between two shallower troughs, with resistance connecting the intervening price peaks. Traders generally seek a break above that resistance, known as the neckline, before treating the formation as a confirmed reversal.

On the chart Brandt shared, the potential neckline sits around $1.50 to $1.60, making that range central to the bullish reading. A sustained move above it would support the pattern, while another rejection would leave the proposed reversal unconfirmed.

Brandt has separately shared a long-term XRP chart suggesting an eventual advance to $5.40, although he distinguished analysis from an executed trade. He stressed that publishing a chart does not prove he entered a position or establish when a projected move might occur.

Meanwhile, some XRP supporters argue that its uses now extend beyond its original role in payments. XRPL validator Vet also challenged concerns about supply changes, explaining that different rules would require node operators to adopt them. That response addresses Brandt’s supply argument, while his latest post concentrates on how investors react to criticism.

Brandt’s position leaves room for both a bullish chart interpretation and scrutiny of the arguments made for holding XRP. The possible reversal depends on price clearing the chart’s neckline, regardless of the debate surrounding its supporters.
