A Milestone, but a Cautious One
After weeks of trading below the threshold, @PiCoreTeam's $PI token has climbed back above a $1 billion market cap. Pi Network's market capitalisation now stands at just over $1 billion, based on a circulating supply of approximately 11 billion tokens. For the project's community, known as Pioneers, the development offers a degree of relief following a prolonged period of selling pressure.
The recovery, however, has been measured. With a price increase of around 2.40% over the past seven days, $PI is underperforming the global cryptocurrency market, which is up 12.50% over the same period. The broader altcoin rally has largely bypassed the token, leaving it trailing peers by a significant margin.
A Long Road Back From the Highs
The context behind this market cap recovery matters. Pi Network launched its Open Mainnet on February 20, 2025, and within weeks the token reached an all-time high of $2.99 on exchanges, before falling to an all-time low of $0.1312 by February 2026. The current price of around $0.09 means the token remains down more than 50% from the start of 2026 alone.
A key structural challenge is supply. Pi has a maximum supply of 100 billion tokens, with only around 9% currently circulating, and hundreds of millions of new tokens unlocking and entering the market every month. The token's liquidity remains concentrated on a limited set of exchanges, including OKX, Bitget, HTX, BitMart, CoinEx, and Kraken, with Binance and Coinbase still absent from the list. That absence is widely seen as a headwind for broader price discovery and demand.
On the network side, @PiCoreTeam has continued to push development forward. Pi Network is strengthening its infrastructure through the rollout of Protocol v26, while expanding ecosystem utility with AI-powered developer tools and Pi2Day products. Whether those milestones can attract enough new demand to outpace ongoing token inflation remains the central question for the asset's price trajectory.
For now, reclaiming the $1 billion market cap mark is a positive signal for the community, even if the recovery falls well short of the token's earlier peaks. Sustained progress will likely depend on tighter supply dynamics, broader exchange listings, and tangible growth in on-chain activity.
